Intel’s latest flagship processor, the Granite Rapids-WS CPU, has been subject to significant leaks, revealing the advanced specifications of the Xeon 698X. This CPU is poised to impress with its high core count and substantial cache capabilities.
Xeon 698X Specifications: A Next-Level Performance CPU
The Intel Xeon 600 series, particularly the Granite Rapids-WS lineup, is expected to debut soon. Although Intel has not made any formal announcements, numerous leaks have surfaced detailing various WeUs, including the highlight of today: the Xeon 698X. This processor promises considerable enhancements over its predecessors.
Focusing on its technical specifications, the Xeon 698X boasts an impressive 86 cores and 172 threads, making it an unlocked WeU ideal for high-performance computing tasks. Built upon the Redwood Cove P-Core architecture, this CPU has a base clock speed of approximately 2.0 GHz and can reach boost frequencies of up to 4.60 GHz. Furthermore, it is equipped with an extraordinary 508 MB of total cache – 336 MB of L3 cache and 172 MB of L2 cache, alongside a thermal design power (TDP) of 350W.

In comparison, the currently leading Xeon workstation CPU, the Xeon W9-3595X from the Sapphire Rapids-WS range, features 60 cores, 120 threads, and a total cache of 232.5 MB. This provides an interesting contrast:

Notably, these results fall short compared to Intel’s Core Ultra 9 285K, which has fewer cores but excels in performance. This highlights the necessity of additional benchmarking to truly gauge the Xeon 698X’s capabilities, especially since it achieved near 4.8 GHz under testing conditions, suggesting the possibility that the listed 4.60 GHz boost frequency may not be final.
