Exciting Updates on inXile’s Clockwork Revolution

It has been over six months since developer inXile shared any news regarding their upcoming steampunk RPG, Clockwork Revolution. After a new trailer was unveiled during the 2025 Xbox Game Showcase in June, inXile’s founder and CEO, Brian Fargo, teased that the game would incorporate options for players that are ‘truly evil’ as well as multi-dimensional dialogue interactions.

Insights from Brian Fargo

Recently, Fargo participated in an insightful interview with GamesRadar, during which he emphasized that Clockwork Revolution is the most ambitious project the studio has ever undertaken, perhaps by “a factor of ten.”This ambition stems from their goal to evolve the level of interactivity typically found in isometric games into a first-person action RPG experience.

Player Choice and World Reactivity

Throughout the interview, Fargo reiterated the importance of offering players genuine alternative choices that impact gameplay, even if this necessitates more content than a typical player could experience in a single playthrough. He stated,

“For me, roleplaying means I can play a role and actually affect the world around me. If all paths lead to the same outcome, the immersion breaks, and you start to feel like you’re just playing a game rather than living in one. But when the world is constantly reacting and reflecting your choices, both in big ways and just as importantly in small ways, that’s when immersion really sets in.”

Fargo elaborated on their content design philosophy, noting that they usually produce about 30% more content than any player might experience in one playthrough. This design strategy allows players to approach the game from different archetypes, whether embodying a good, evil, or morally ambiguous character. He expressed a vital aspect of their development process:

“Here’s what’s really important to us: if you don’t allow the player to be bad, to really go down those rabbit holes and see the consequences play out, then they never had free will to be good in the first place. They’re not choosing to be good, they’re just being forced down a path. We think it’s essential that players are making that choice, not having it made for them. We also have a very dark sense of humor, which makes all of it even more fun.”

Anticipation for Release

Clockwork Revolution was initially presented at the 2023 Xbox Games Showcase. As of now, there is no confirmed release date. Unless there are surprise plans for a late 2026 launch by Microsoft and inXile, fans may have to wait until 2027 to get their hands on the game. For context, inXile’s last release, Wasteland 3, debuted in August 2020.

Platform Availability

The game is set to launch on PC and Xbox Series S and X. Given Microsoft’s commitment to a multiplatform strategy, it seems inevitable that PlayStation 5 players will also eventually enjoy this exciting RPG.
