Recently, a rumor emerged regarding Insomniac Games allegedly canceling their highly anticipated Venom standalone game. This claim came to light through a rather credible source: Nadji Jeter, who is known for voicing Miles Morales in the Spider-Man franchise. During an interview with the YouTube channel Love it Film, Jeter shared some startling news.
“Let me give y’all an exclusive. We were going to have a Venom game. Yeah, we were going to have a Venom game and a Venom DLC, but we lost Tony Todd. They showed me how it was going to start. They showed me how everything was going to be. It was gonna be a Venom video game. Like, just straight Venom out.”
Jeter went on to discuss the personal impact of losing actor Tony Todd, who voiced Venom in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, attributing the game’s rumored cancellation to the tragic passing of his “uncle”Todd in November 2024. However, the reliability of this rumor is under scrutiny.
Countering Jeter’s statements, multiple legitimate sources have affirmed that no cancellation has occurred. A verified game developer on ResetEra noted:
“Unless it was canceled in the past two or so weeks… this runs contradictory to what was being discussed at GDC. And Todd died way before GDC 2026.”
Additionally, industry journalist Jason Schreier from Bloomberg remarked, “This isn’t true.“This further emphasizes the ambiguity surrounding the game’s status.
First hinted at in 2023 due to the Insomniac Games ransomware leak, the standalone Venom game was initially positioned to be a focus for the studio. However, the upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine project seemingly shifted priorities, likely necessitating the need to recast roles, including that of Tony Todd. A report from MP1st indicates that the Venom game remains in the works, with Eddie Brock set to host the alien symbiote and introduce a confrontation with Carnage, Venom’s formidable offspring.
As anticipation builds for Marvel’s Wolverine, slated for release on September 15, 2026, fans can expect updates on the Venom project in the coming years. Stay tuned for further news and developments on this potential blockbuster title.
