Guerrilla Games has officially announced Horizon Hunters Gathering, an engaging online co-op action experience. After a lengthy four-year development period, fans witnessed a preview of the game’s charmingly stylized, semi-cartoonish visuals, which were teased in an early 2023 footage leak. This shift marks a notable departure from the pristine realism typically associated with the Horizon franchise. As the gaming community reacts, only time will tell if this new aesthetic will resonate with the loyal fanbase. For comparison, NCSoft’s MMORPG Horizon Steel Frontiers, currently in the works, maintains a more conventional look aligned with the franchise’s established graphic standards.

However, the team expressed a desire to explore new gameplay experiences with this installment, focusing on cooperative play and multifaceted team dynamics.
Join the Gathering: A New Team of Hunters
In Horizon Hunters Gathering, players will assemble into the elite group known as the Gathering, tasked with defending humanity against increasingly perilous machines. This narrative is set within the established Horizon universe, introducing fresh characters and unveiling new threats, thereby enriching the lore established in Horizon Zero Dawn, Horizon Forbidden West, and the virtual reality title Horizon Call of the Mountain.
Diverse Hunters to Choose From
The initial roster features an array of specialized hunter types, including:

- Champions – the fierce combatants.
- Mercenaries – rogues with a fragmented past.

What to Expect in the Final Game
The fully realized version of Horizon Hunters Gathering will include a narrative campaign that can be played solo with NPC companions or cooperatively with friends. However, the storyline will not be part of the upcoming February playtest.
