Chinese smartphone brands have long been known for emulating Apple’s innovative designs, both in hardware and software. Honor, a former subsidiary of Huawei, has recently taken this imitation to a new level. The company has added a rear dummy camera to its latest model, the Honor Power2, to mirror the design aesthetic of Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. Interestingly, one feature that distinguishes the Power2 is its substantial 10, 080mAh battery, which Apple’s models do not replicate.
Honor Power2 Enhances User Experience with ‘Transparency Mode’
One of the standout design features that Apple introduced with the iPhone 17 series is the ‘camera plateau’, now adopted by Honor in the Power2. This design includes a triple-camera configuration along with a striking Cosmic Orange finish. The addition of a non-functional dummy camera further reinforces the resemblance to Apple’s flagship devices. Top tech reviewer MKBHD highlighted the similarities between the Power2 and iPhone 17 Pro, emphasizing the near-identical look from a distance.
In fact, at a glance, it may be challenging for users to differentiate between these devices. The Honor Power2 also features a unique adaptation of Apple’s Liquid Glass interface, labeled as ‘Transparency mode’.Images provided by Honor reveal that users can toggle this feature, offering an alternative for those who may prefer a different visual experience than what Apple offers.
What adds a touch of humor to this design choice is that despite the visual gimmick of a third camera, the Power2 is equipped with only two functional rear cameras: a 50MP primary sensor and a 5MP ultrawide sensor. The dummy camera is strictly a design element, confirmed by cross-referencing specifications on GSMArena. MKBHD also noted that the placeholder sensor was non-operative.
On a positive note, Honor compensates for these design choices with an impressive 10, 080mAh battery that can also function as a power bank for charging other devices. The Power2 achieves this while maintaining a slimmer profile than the iPhone 17 Pro Max, measuring only 7.98mm thick. However, it is worth noting that the Power2 does come with less premium hardware, featuring MediaTek’s Dimensity 8500 processor, 12GB of RAM, and an LTPS OLED display, which are necessary concessions for its price point.
