According to a recent analysis from Deepwater Asset Management, Apple’s decision to integrate Gemini into its redesigned Siri, alongside its on-device Foundation Models, might prove significantly more beneficial for Google than previously estimated.
Value of the Gemini-Siri Partnership: Estimated at $5 Billion for Google
As reported by The Financial Times, Gene Munster from Deepwater Asset Management has stated that the ongoing agreement between Apple and Google regarding Gemini and Siri could have a total worth of up to $5 billion for Google.
Previously, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman revealed that Apple would remit approximately $1 billion per year to Google for licensing a massive 1.2-trillion-parameter custom Gemini AI model. This model will operate on Apple’s private servers, assisting in handling more intricate AI queries while maintaining user privacy through the use of encrypted and stateless data.
This collaboration opens doors for Apple to introduce a revamped Siri interface, potentially with the expected iOS 26.4 update. The updates may include features such as enhanced in-app actions, context awareness, and improved on-screen interactions for users interacting with their voice assistant.
If Gurman’s information holds true, it indicates that Google plans to supply its AI capabilities to Apple for at least five years. Therefore, it appears unlikely that Apple will transition to using its own AI models for Siri before 2031.
Despite any concerns, this partnership is likely advantageous for Apple. As we highlighted in a recent article, consider this scenario: if you request a restaurant reservation through the updated Siri, would you inform your friends that Google’s Gemini was the technology behind it? Likely not, as the technology supporting Apple’s voice assistant is less important than the user experience itself. What matters is that users perceive Siri as an improved assistant with advanced capabilities, irrespective of the underlying technology.
