At CES 2026, AMD introduced two new entries to its Strix Halo family: the Ryzen AI MAX+ 392 and the Ryzen AI MAX+ 388. These processors are designed to cater to budget-conscious consumers seeking powerful performance in gaming laptops, featuring 12-core and 8-core configurations paired with the enhanced Radeon 8060S GPUs. ASUS was quick to announce the first TUF Gaming laptops powered by these chips, and now, early benchmark results have surfaced.

The Ryzen AI MAX+ 392 is built with 12 cores and 24 threads, leveraging the advanced Zen 5 architecture. With boost clock speeds reaching up to 5.0 GHz and 50 TOPs from its NPU, this SoC promises excellent performance for gaming laptops. Unlike the prior model equipped with 32 compute units (CUs), the Ryzen AI MAX+ 392 and MAX+ 388 benefit from the full 40 CU configuration of the Radeon 8060S. Additionally, the new Ryzen AI MAX+ series supports faster LPDDR5X memory operating at 8533 MT/s, which enhances gaming experiences straight out of the box. The platform accommodates up to 128 GB of unified memory and boasts an impressive 60 TFLOPs of FP16 compute, along with advanced AI capabilities driven by the XDNA 2 core.

The ASUS TX Air FA401EA laptop, configured with the Ryzen AI MAX+ 392 and 64 GB of LP5X memory clocked at 8000 MT/s, was the testing ground for these benchmarks. Performance scores revealed that the SoC achieved 2917 points in single-core evaluations and 18, 071 points in multi-core tests, according to Geekbench 6. For context, the Ryzen 9 7900X 12-Core Desktop CPU scores approximately 17, 740 in multi-core tests, while the Ryzen 9 9800X3D scores around 18, 347. The Ryzen AI MAX+ 392’s scores reflect a commendable performance level within the mobile CPU segment given its 5.0 GHz clock speed.
