Corsair has officially unveiled its latest innovation, the ThermalProtect PCIe 5.1 600W cable, specifically designed for 16-pin GPUs. This cutting-edge cable incorporates over-temperature protection, offering users a crucial safeguard for their valuable graphics cards.

Corsair Innovates with Enhanced Safety Features for 16-Pin GPUs

The introduction of 16-pin graphics cards has raised concerns among users regarding their reliability. Enthusiasts frequently find themselves vigilantly using monitoring tools to keep track of temperatures and the integrity of connectors, as these cards are prone to overheating and potential damage. Reports of issues with models like the RTX 5090 highlight the risks associated with conventional connectors.

In response to these industry challenges, various manufacturers, including MSI, ASRock, and ASUS, have launched their own proprietary cables designed to mitigate overheating risks, often accompanied by software solutions to protect high-end graphics cards.

Now, Corsair joins the ranks with its innovative ThermalProtect cable, which adheres to PCIe 5.1 standards and supports up to 600W power output. This cable not only excels in performance but also incorporates a unique feature—over-temperature protection (OTP) embedded within the design.

The standout element of Corsair’s ThermalProtect cable is its OTP system, which actively monitors the 12V-2×6 pin connector for temperature irregularities. Positioned within a 30mm cable comb, this innovative technology shuts down the GPU when temperatures reach critical levels, thereby preventing potential damage and extending the lifespan of hardware components.

An additional advantage of the ThermalProtect cable is its broad compatibility with any power supply unit (PSU) featuring a native 12V-2×6 interface. This strategic decision allows Corsair to cater to a wider audience, as the cable is not limited to its own PSU line.
