ASUS has initiated the deployment of its latest BIOS updates specifically designed to address the persistent BitLocker recovery issues affecting its motherboards.
ASUS Beta BIOS Version 2102/1642 Now Available for 600 and 800-Series Motherboards, Resolving BitLocker Recovery Issues
Numerous users have reported encountering troublesome BitLocker recovery prompts on ASUS’s AM5 motherboards, an issue triggered by the previous Beta BIOS version 2101. This glitch forced BitLocker to request the recovery key upon each system start, creating considerable access problems, even after attempts to downgrade the BIOS and reset the Trusted Platform Module (TPM).The root cause appeared to be a corruption in the Secure Boot logs.
In response to these concerns, ASUS has rolled out a new BIOS update, Version 2102, for both the 600 and 800-series AM5 motherboards. This update comes with important enhancements, including an AGESA microcode update to version 1.3.0.0a, which was previously included in the Beta BIOS 2101. This resolution of the BitLocker recovery issue is critical for users seeking smoother system operations, a point acknowledged by ASUS following widespread feedback.

Per official documentation from ASUS, BitLocker is designed to activate following any hardware modifications or BIOS configuration changes; however, this issue is not limited exclusively to ASUS motherboards. The substantial number of user complaints on widely-used platforms prompted ASUS to issue this new BIOS update. BitLocker serves as Microsoft’s integrated full-disk encryption feature, which can be inadvertently initiated during alterations to essential system components such as TPM or Secure Boot.
Upon detecting what it considers a potential security threat due to these modifications, BitLocker presents a recovery interface, requiring a 48-digit BitLocker recovery key to regain access to the encrypted drive. This situation became particularly frustrating for users unable to locate their recovery keys, effectively locking them out of their data. Some attempted deactivating BitLocker prior to flashing the BIOS, but the problem remained unresolved. Many troubleshooting efforts, such as BIOS downgrades, TPM clearing, secure boot key deletions, and full CMOS resets, have proven ineffective for some users. The hope now is that the latest BIOS update will ultimately resolve these issues.
