ASUS is once again facing scrutiny over its customer service practices, following claims that the company declined to repair a motherboard. The reason cited for this refusal was the user’s alleged choice not to proceed with the repair.
ASUS Cites “Customer Decides Not to Repair”as Reason for Denying Motherboard Repair; Allegedly Seeks $45 for Minor Cosmetic Fix
This incident is not an isolated one, as complaints regarding ASUS’s handling of Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) requests have surfaced numerous times. Numerous users have shared similar experiences, whether relating to motherboards or graphics cards. Reports indicate that ASUS has demanded steep fees—sometimes amounting to thousands of dollars—for repairs or replacements. In other cases, they’ve outright refused RMA requests based on purely cosmetic issues that do not compromise the device’s functionality.

The latest situation was shared by Reddit user u/MoumousMeow, who claims that ASUS incorrectly asserted the user chose not to authorize repairs on his motherboard. A screenshot presented by the user indicates that ASUS attributed the lack of repairs to the user’s supposed refusal, despite the motherboard being non-functional.
They actually mentioned it, a cosmetic damage, not affecting function, asking for $45 to fix it, I said just fix the reported issue, then here we are.

The user’s frustration is palpable, expressing that seeing the ASUS logo makes him feel “nauseated.”He is even contemplating selling his ASUS ROG Ally due to these ongoing issues. The user noted that ASUS requested $45 for a minor cosmetic repair but declined, insisting on a resolution for the primary malfunction. This reluctance to pay for a cosmetic fix might have contributed to ASUS’s refusal to address the core issue, which is a pattern reported by others affected by similar situations.
…They pointed out the cosmetic damage, (so minor I don’t even know what they are talking about) i said just fix the issue, they replied that the issue has been fixed, which is a lie.
The point is, they ignored my reported issue, changed it to “system no boot”, then claim “customer decides not to repair”, while customer service told me “the issue is fixed”.
What cosmetic damage they found is unrelated to their audacity to do it.

In response to previous criticisms from media outlets like Gamers Nexus, ASUS stated that it would cease automatically providing quotations for cosmetic repairs when defects do not affect device functionality. However, this recent incident suggests that similar practices may still be occurring, raising concerns about the company’s commitment to customer service and transparency.
