The departure of Alan Dye, the visionary behind Apple’s innovative Liquid Glass UI, has sparked speculation about the future of Apple’s design language. However, recent insights suggest that Apple remains committed to this aesthetic in its upcoming iOS 27 update.
iOS 27: Emphasis on AI Innovations and Stability Enhancements
Following Dye’s transition to Meta in December 2025, many believed Apple might shift away from its Liquid Glass UI. This assumption was fueled by ongoing critiques of the design, particularly regarding legibility, leading some to argue that Apple was prioritizing aesthetics over functionality.
Mark Gurman from Bloomberg has provided clarity on the matter, stating that Apple has no plans for significant UI changes in iOS 27:
“Let’s not forget that Apple’s user interface manager did not develop the iOS 26 interface himself and did not unilaterally decide on this direction. The company is still very attached to it.”
Instead of a major redesign, Apple is expected to concentrate on enhancing the stability of its operating system with the iOS 27 update. Additionally, there are plans to introduce a new Siri chatbot, which will utilize Google’s TPU technology and cloud infrastructure, potentially through a leasing agreement with Google.
Gurman elaborates that this Siri chatbot will be integrated within Apple’s ecosystem, rather than being launched as a separate application. This new integration aims to revolutionize how Siri interacts with users by enabling web searches, generating content—including images—providing programming assistance, and summarizing and analyzing data. It will also allow users to upload files seamlessly.
This advanced version of Siri will utilize personal data to enhance task completion capabilities and will feature a significantly improved search functionality. Furthermore, it will be equipped with features that enable it to view open windows and on-screen content, adjust device settings, and offer a more intuitive user experience.
Gurman anticipates that a beta version of iOS 27 will be available this summer. The updated Siri chatbot is expected to leverage an even more sophisticated iteration of Google’s Gemini model, internally referred to as Apple Foundation Models version 11. He highlighted that “the model is expected to be competitive with Gemini 3 and significantly more capable than the one that powers Siri in iOS 26.4.”
In related news, it seems Apple has downscaled its initial plans for revamping the Health app in the iOS 27 update. This decision follows the less-than-stellar results stemming from the integration of Apple Health with ChatGPT Health, which resulted in inaccurate and inconsistent health recommendations.
