Upcoming Release: 1348 Ex Voto

Independent publisher Dear Villagers and developer Sedleo have unveiled the release date for their eagerly awaited action/adventure title, 1348 Ex Voto. Scheduled to launch on March 12, the game will be available exclusively for PC and PlayStation 5. Notably, the planned version for Xbox Series S|X has been canceled, a decision likely influenced by the declining sales of Xbox consoles over recent years, making it less viable for smaller studios to allocate resources for developing this port.

A Glimpse into 14th Century Italy

Set against the backdrop of 14th-century Italy, a time characterized by political upheaval and plague, 1348 Ex Voto presents an engaging narrative. Players step into the shoes of Aeta, a young noblewoman voiced by Alby Baldwin. Her life spirals into chaos when bandits attack her village, leading to the abduction of Bianca, played by the acclaimed actress Jennifer English, known for her roles in titles such as Baldur’s Gate 3 and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Aeta’s quest to rescue Bianca takes her through a variety of stunning environments, ranging from medieval villages and castles to the majestic Appennino mountains and the ruins of ancient Rome.

Authentic Gameplay Inspired by History

Sedleo’s team of approximately 15 Italian developers has meticulously crafted a world that reflects authenticity and historical plausibility. They drew inspiration from classic chivalric tales and even recorded real-life environments in rural Italy to enhance the immersive experience. The game’s combat system, hailed as ‘cinematic, ’ is rooted in HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) and brought to life through performance capture techniques.

Combat Mechanics and Customization

Players will find themselves employing strategic combat maneuvers with Aeta’s martial proficiency. The game allows them to toggle between two distinct combat stances—one-handed and two-handed weapons. Scattered throughout the richly detailed environments are skill books that, when discovered, unlock new combat combos. This feature enables players to tailor Aeta’s swordplay experience, introducing a personal touch to combat through various weapon parts.

Availability and Pricing

1348 Ex Voto will be accessible for purchase on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. While the official system requirements are yet to be disclosed, the anticipated price for the game is set at $24.99 for both PC and PlayStation 5.
