CM Punk shares positive update on AJ Lee’s potential WWE return

WWE Superstar CM Punk has provided an update on the possibility of AJ Lee making a comeback to the Stamford-based company.

In April 2015, AJ Lee declared that she was retiring from in-ring competition, citing permanent damage to her cervical spine as the main reason. Despite her young age of 37, she had a prosperous career in the company and was a three-time winner of the WWE Divas Championship.

During his recent interview on The MMA Hour, CM Punk discussed various topics such as his potential return to WWE, his past experiences with the wrestling promotion, his stint in AEW, and much more. The Second City Saint also addressed the potential for his wife to make a comeback to the Stamford-based company.

The Best in the World addressed the possibility of AJ Lee making a comeback by stating that it is highly unlikely, although the possibility is not completely ruled out.

“Probably not. I think there is [an open door]. Selfishly, I would love it. I’m her biggest fan. So, I love everything she does.”

Ever since CM Punk made his return, he has made multiple mentions of his wife’s name on television. When asked if this was a hint at AJ Lee’s potential comeback to the wrestling industry, the former WWE Champion coyly admitted that it could be. He then referenced a similar situation that occurred after his infamous pipe bomb.

“Maybe I am. I don’t know. Again, there is that line. I know how to do things. Think about the pipe bomb. All those guys I mentioned, all of a sudden were on TV within weeks. Heyman, Laurinaitus.”

WWE Hall of Famer Booker T drew comparisons between NXT Superstar Cora Jade and former Divas Champion AJ Lee, stating that Jade reminded him of Lee.

During a recent episode of his Hall of Fame Podcast, the 58-year-old expressed admiration for Cora Jade, a former NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion. He believes that she stands out among the other women on the roster. Booker T also noted that her unapologetic attitude is reminiscent of AJ Lee.

“The thing with Cora is you could tell she’s a star. She’s going to be a player in the business. Even once she gets to the main roster, there’s something about Cora that just stands out. She’s different than most of the girls on the roster. She reminds me of AJ Lee so much. She reminds me of that firecracker that was just herself and unapologetic. [Jade is an] ‘I’m going to go out and do it like this, whether you like it or not’ type of girl,”he said.

Despite being in her prime, Cora Jade is currently sidelined due to an injury. The 23-year-old sustained a torn ACL during her singles match against Lyra Valkyria at a live event on January 12. She underwent successful surgery in the same month and is on track to make a full recovery in seven to eight months.
