While I may not consider myself an artist, I have engaged in various creative pursuits throughout my life. Engaging in activities such as painting or sculpting entails a gradual, iterative process that demands considerable time, focus, and a touch of inspiration. One of the most captivating experiences in this regard can be found within the Painting Workshop of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
The Painting Workshop is an intriguing space within the game, boasting three distinct entrances across the Continent. Each of these entrances presents unique challenges, fascinating lore, and an encounter with a mysterious statue of an unusual beast. Successfully overcoming all three challenges before confronting this formidable beast promises rewarding loot and thrilling gameplay.
Note: Minor spoilers for Expedition 33 follow.
Discovering the Workshop Entrances
To embark on your adventure in the Painting Workshop, the first step involves locating its three entrances. They are distinguishable by their size and appearance, resembling large white canvases that protrude from various locations across the landscape.
If you stumble upon them during your explorations, don’t fret—they will be marked on your Continent map for easy access later. However, to reach these intriguing spots, you’ll need to harness Esquie’s swimming and flying abilities. It’s advisable to tackle this quest later in the game.
Here’s where you can find the three entrances:
- Positioned on the mountainside, northeast of the Stone Wave Cliffs.
- Nestled within a forest to the northwest of the Forgotten Battlefield.
- Located on a floating island east of Sirene’s Island.
Upon entering each Workshop entrance, you will navigate a series of platforming challenges consisting of floating frames and narrow beams. While not overly complicated compared to the climbing challenges found on the Gestral Beaches, persistence is key—if you fall, simply try again until you succeed.
Piecing Together the Puzzle

As you traverse each platforming section of the Painting Workshop, you will encounter the ethereal figure known as the Faceless Boy. Be sure to converse with him, as he holds vital components necessary for your quest.
During your conversation, the Faceless Boy will provide you with useful items after you respond affirmatively with “We will.” After collecting these items, proceed toward the workshop’s center, where you’ll find the statue of the beast, ready for completion.
Utilize the items given by the Faceless Boy to finalize the statue. An exit to the Continent awaits just beyond the statue, allowing you to quickly return to seek out the other entrances after enhancing it.
Confront the Boss

Once you have completed the statue by adding the Light of the Beast, Colour of the Beast, and Shape of the Beast, it will animate and lead you to a large arena beyond the exit portal, transforming into an optional boss battle.
This confrontation features a familiar foe—the Lampmaster, whom players may remember from their earlier encounter at the Stone Wave Cliffs. While the mechanics of the fight are similar, expect the Lampmaster to demonstrate enhanced health and damage.
Keep an eye on his lanterns as he prepares for his more powerful attacks, and make sure to shoot them in the same order they light up to nullify his assault. Additionally, be prepared to parry his extended combo attacks and take down any additional lanterns he summons. With a party level between 75-80, you should find this battle manageable.
For defeating the Lampmaster again, you will be rewarded with valuable items including advanced versions of At Death’s Door and Energising Attack I Pictos, Grandiose Chroma Catalysts, and a Recoat.
Before you exit, don’t forget to return to the Faceless Boy once more—he has a special surprise for you, offering a Perfect Chroma Catalyst to conclude your adventure.
