The Chromatic Gold Chevaliere in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 introduces a formidable challenge for players, especially because it possesses a chromatic variant that is significantly more powerful than the standard version. This enemy boasts enhanced attack moves and tactics that can make the battle quite daunting.
The severity of the encounter multiplies when the Chromatic Gold Chevaliere opts to fight alongside its ally, Obscur. While Clair tends to have a more erratic battle rhythm—often delaying its attacks reminiscent of fights with Margit in Elden Ring—Obscur makes up for this by relentlessly attacking with a flurry of strikes. Most troublesome are their unique abilities which include applying buffs to themselves or debuffs to the player, thus complicating the encounter further.
However, despite their strength, both foes have identifiable weaknesses that can turn the tide in your favor, allowing for a quicker defeat. Here is a comprehensive guide on how to conquer the Chromatic Gold Chevaliere in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
Location of the Chromatic Gold Chevaliere
The Chromatic Gold Chevaliere can be located in the Crimson Forest. To access this floating island area, players need to utilize Esquie’s flying ability, which unlocks after defeating the Paintress.
Upon gaining the Fly skill, head north from the Endless Tower to find the Crimson Forest. Be aware that in order to battle this boss, you must activate three Chevaliere statues.
Starting from the Crimson Perch Expedition Flag 79, navigate right and descend using two ropes. Next, head toward the circular platforms and ascend. Follow the natural pathway and to the left to activate the first statue.
From there, continue left to an area with two wooden planks; instead of jumping over, drop down to activate the second statue.
Proceed to the second Expedition Flag 79, known as The Three Blades. Facing the boss area, turn right and climb the platform where you’ll encounter Obscur and two Gold Chevaliere. You can either fight them or rush past to reach the third statue. Once activated, you’re ready to face the boss.
Preparation for the Chromatic Gold Chevaliere Battle

The Chromatic Gold Chevaliere is particularly vulnerable to both Light and Dark damage. Consequently, the optimal party members for this encounter include Verso, Sciel, and Monoco.
Verso will be your key player against Obscur, utilizing some of the most effective Light-element moves. At the same time, Sciel and Monoco are tasked with taking on Clair using their formidable Dark-element attacks.
Avoid using Maelle, since her Fire damage abilities are resistant to the Chromatic Gold Chevaliere. If you favor her healing skills, consider switching Lune for Monoco, ensuring her equipped skills do not include Fire or Ice damage.
Ideal Party Composition

After grinding for experience points, I assembled a party of Verso, Monoco, and Sciel, at levels 67, 66, and 62, respectively. If you’re skilled with parrying, you may attempt this fight at around level 55, but take caution—without the right Pictos, your team risks being eliminated in just a few hits.
To optimize your party’s performance, equip Verso with essential skills such as Phantom Stars, Perfect Break, and Assault Zero. It’s also wise to include Perfect Recovery to heal yourself swiftly when your health is low.
For Monoco, the handy skills include Obscur Sword, Pelerin Heal, and Chalier Combo, with Chevaliere Piercing being potentially useful if Clair places shields on its allies.
Lastly, Sciel should deploy Dark Wave, Final Path, and Grim Harvest. Equip each character with Lumina to effectively heal yourself through counterattacks.

Strategies to Defeat the Chromatic Gold Chevaliere

The primary strategy for overcoming the Chromatic Gold Chevaliere involves neutralizing its allies, with an emphasis on Clair. This character proves especially troublesome by granting shields to others, thereby complicating counterattacks.
Utilize Monoco and Sciel’s Dark-element weapons and skills to inflict maximum damage on Clair swiftly. Verso’s Light damage will be less effective due to Clair’s resistance, making it impractical for the initial strikes.
Subsequently, Verso must engage Obscur. If using Delaram, you start at Rank B, providing you have at least 5 AP with Lumina equipped. Target Obscur with Perfect Break to significantly deplete its health and potentially break it.
Both Clair and Obscur exhibit a common tell: their swords glow white and purple prior to their hits. It’s essential to recognize these indicators to time your parries effectively, especially during their Weakening Strike attack.
Should you lack confidence in your parrying timing or possess 9 AP, it may be wiser to evade instead.
Once the lesser enemies are vanquished, focus your efforts on the Chromatic Gold Chevaliere. Its Fire attack features a notably quicker second spin attack, demanding a prompt parry response.
During the Frozen attack, remember that the slashes following the backhands are faster, another area of caution for your parrying strategy. Once you have amassed 2 Gradient charges, employ Monoco’s Gradient skill to gain shields and Regen for 3 turns.
By consistently executing counterattacks and employing your Light and Dark elemental skills, victory against the Chromatic Gold Chevaliere should be within reach.
Rewards for Defeating the Chromatic Gold Chevaliere

Upon successfully defeating the Chromatic Gold Chevaliere, players will gain the following rewards:
- 346, 680 XP
- 14, 677 Chroma
Picto (Level 20)
- x2
- x5
(Level 24)
The Chevalam weapon is particularly advantageous for Verso, allowing players to commence the battle with a Perfection Rank S. However, its drawback is that you will not be able to receive healing or shielding effects.
Moreover, this weapon grants a substantial 20% damage increase per consecutive turn when you manage to avoid taking damage, stacking the buff up to five times, while also applying the Rush buff.
