In the thrilling world of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, players encounter a variety of creatures known as nevrons, many of which exhibit aggressive behavior. However, one exceptional nevrons stands out: the Jar Nevron, which you meet early in your journey at Spring Meadows.
Upon interaction, it becomes clear that the Jar Nevron poses no threat to you or your fellow expeditioners. As the game unfolds, you will discover additional nevrons, particularly the White Nevrons, who similarly seek your assistance.
Interestingly, after you assist these creatures, the option arises to attack them. However, taking this choice has significant repercussions; for instance, Blanche will not forgive your actions if you harm their kin when you encounter them for the first time.
If you are unconcerned about pursuing the achievement linked to this quest, or you simply want a challenge, continue reading for strategies to defeat Blanche in this epic confrontation.
Locating Blanche
Blanche can be found at The Fountain, an area accessible later in the game. To reach this location, you must unlock Esquie’s Fly ability first.
Approach from Abbest Cave heading west, or from the Dark Shores moving northwest, as depicted on the map above.
Starting from Expedition flagpost 84, move to your left, where you will encounter a white Noir enemy blocking your path. Interaction with them varies based on your progress; you will have the chance to converse if you haven’t yet harmed their brethren.
If you have previously defeated white nevrons, Blanche will confront you regarding your violence and retaliate without mercy.
Preparing for the Battle Against Blanche

Like other formidable foes such as Chromatic Aberration, Blanche possesses no clear weaknesses. Although you might assume that Light-based attacks would deal additional damage, they prove ineffective against this adversary.
Your best strategy lies in stacking Burns to inflict extra damage. Given the challenge of this encounter, ensuring your party members are equipped with a minimum level of 80 is advisable.
Prior to facing Blanche, consider battling Noirs at the Dark Shores; their attack patterns mirror Blanche’s, providing crucial practice.
If you are well-versed in Noir tactics, feel free to engage in this fight sooner. Equipping the Lumina is beneficial for recovering from parries errors.
Lastly, ensure your teammates wield the strongest weapons available to maximize the damage output during the encounter.
Optimal Party Composition

For my successful battle against Blanche, my party included level 84 Lune, level 86 Verso, and level 84 Maelle. Verso’s high level and powerful Light attacks made him a vital asset, while Lune and Maelle contributed with their Fire-based skills, essential for stacking burns.
When selecting weapons, Lune utilized a level 32
Verso wielded a level 32
Maelle also had a level 32

Blanche Attack Overview

Blanche employs five distinct attacks, each capable of delivering substantial damage. Understanding their timing is crucial for success. Here is an analysis of Blanche’s moves:
Attack | Description | Recommended Action |
---|---|---|
Gathering Dark Chroma | Blanche absorbs Dark Chroma from the environment, launching it at party members. | Dodge or Parry |
Dark Spear Strike | Summons a Dark Spear for a targeted Gradient attack. | Gradient Parry just before the strike. |
Strange Combo | A swift combo ending in a clap that targets the player. | Dodge or Parry |
Applying Berserk | Increases Blanche’s attack damage, stacking with each use. | Wait for the right moment. |
Bestial Combo | A six-hit combo that combines various attack patterns, more powerful than typical Noir attacks. | Dodge or Parry |
Defeating Blanche in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

The key to overcoming Blanche lies in utilizing skills that accumulate Burns effectively. Additionally, mastering the parry mechanics of Blanche’s attacks will allow you to counterattack successfully.
During her “gather chroma”attack, observe her animation carefully and parry at the right moment to counter her strikes. For the spear summon, timing your Gradient parry as she swings will maximize your counterattack potential.
In your turns, ensure you employ your most powerful moves: Lune should use Hell, Verso can employ Phantom Stars, and Maelle should activate Pyrolyse. If Blanche does not target a party member and they lack AP, deploy your next best attack.
As Blanche begins using the Strange Combo, especially the clap move, prioritize dodging initially to gauge the timing. Successful parries on her clap should be executed as she finishes her hand movements.
Once Blanche drops below 50% health, she will frequently activate her Berserk state, boosting her damage output. This move consumes a turn, effectively giving you an opening to attack as you navigate through Blanche’s onslaught.
Be particularly cautious of the Bestial Combo, which is a more complex version of the typical Noir assault. Initially avoid it until you master perfect dodges.
With your parry timings mastered, focus on delivering counterattacks and applying Gradient Skills. A powerful setup might involve using Verso’s Sabotage to mark Blanche before unleashing Phantom Stars for maximum effect. Maintain a relentless assault, and you will secure victory over Blanche sooner than expected.
Rewards for Defeating Blanche

Defeating Blanche yields significant rewards, which include:
- 1, 012, 500 XP
- 14, 280 Chroma
x10
x2
While these rewards are enticing, they do not justify the act of harming the white nevrons. If you’re starting anew or haven’t attacked a white nevron previously, it’s advisable to assist them instead.
After aiding all the white nevrons, revisit Blanche, who will reward you with 100x Color of Lumina, a far more valuable prize given the ease of farming Grandiose Chroma Catalysts from Noirs in the Dark Shores.
