In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, players will come across a fascinating group of Nevrons, some of whom display a gentle demeanor, offering optional quests that yield valuable rewards. Notably, one such peaceful Nevron is located in The Small Bourgeon, who presents an unusual request for a specific item.
This particular Nevron seeks a rare Bourgeon skin, which it requires for growth. To obtain the skin, players must first locate and defeat hostile Bourgeons scattered across The Continent. Below, you’ll find detailed guidance on how to acquire the Bourgeon skin, defeat the Bourgeon in Flying Waters, and utilize the skin effectively.
Where to Locate the White Bourgeon?

The white Bourgeon can be found within The Small Bourgeon. Once you exit Flying Waters, you’ll encounter three enemies ahead and the entrance to the Ancient Sanctuary. Make a left turn to reach The Small Bourgeon entrance.
Upon entering, proceed past Expedition Flag 53 into an open area. To your left, a dim yellow light indicates the location of the small white Bourgeon, who will request the Bourgeon skin from you. Interestingly, players may choose to collect the skin before initiating a conversation with the white Bourgeon.
Acquiring the Bourgeon Skin in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

To obtain Bourgeon skin, you will need to defeat a Bourgeon. These creatures can be located in various areas: one is in Flying Waters, three are on The Continent, and another is found in Flying Manor.
The Bourgeon in Flying Waters is likely the most accessible for newcomers. Start from Expedition Flag 48 and follow the designated path until you reach a building. Turn left, and there, you will find a solitary Bourgeon waiting for you.
If you forgot to save at the Expedition Flag, you can quickly switch weapons with any character to activate a save point.
Preparation for the Bourgeon Encounter

The most effective strategy against the Bourgeon is to utilize lightning damage attacks, as this is its sole weakness. However, be aware that the Bourgeon possesses an aggressive move where it can consume party members, which complicates the battle.
To optimize your chances in this encounter, consider the following suggestions regarding party composition, skills, and the Bourgeon’s attacks.
Optimal Party Composition for the Bourgeon Battle

For this confrontation, my recommended party includes Lune, Gustave, and Maelle. Gustave and Lune are particularly vital due to their abilities.
Gustave’s default skill, Overcharge, when executed with precision, can inflict substantial damage. Lune’s skill, Thunderfall, unleashes multiple thunderous strikes upon the Bourgeon, effectively exploiting its weakness.
Maelle, in her Offensive stance, will contribute significant physical damage, even though the Bourgeon isn’t particularly vulnerable to it. Utilize her turns to heal or resupply other party members as necessary.
Most Effective Skills

Party Member | Skill | Description |
---|---|---|
Gustave | Lightning Strike: High damage to a single target based on Charges; does 1 hit. Resets Charges post-usage. | |
Recover: Restores 50% health and removes status effects; provides 0-2 Charges. | ||
Powerful: Enhances 1-3 allies’ damage for 3 turns; gives 0-2 Charges. | ||
Moon | Thunderbolt: Medium damage to random enemies with 2-6 hits. Can trigger critical hits for additional damage. | |
Healing Light: Restores 30-50% health to an ally and dispels any debuffs; costs 0 AP when specific conditions are met. | ||
Maelle | Defenseless: Low single-target damage; applies debuff for 3 turns. | |
Percée: Medium physical damage to single target; marked enemies take increased damage. |
While using Gustave, remember to charge his abilities as needed. For maximum efficacy, start utilizing Overcharge when his arm’s charge level is at least five. Be cautious of the Bourgeon’s potential to eat Gustave, prompting strategic timing of your skills.
Utilize Lune’s ability, Thunderfall, whenever feasible. Despite its unpredictable hit range, it still poses significant damage potential. Reserve Maelle for offensive strikes and consider utilizing her turns for healing when necessary.
Understanding the Bourgeon’s Attack Pattern

Attack | Description |
---|---|
Eating an Ally | The Bourgeon consumes an ally, rendering them unusable until freed by breaking the Bourgeon’s Break bar or defeating it. |
Miasma | The Bourgeon spits green projectiles causing an Exhaust debuff, preventing AP recovery. |
3-hit Combo | A series of quick strikes executed sequentially, with the initial hit being relatively slow. |
5-hit Combo | A combination attack beginning with two left-hand slams followed by a 3-hit barrage. |
Crushing Combo | Continues with a 3-hit sequence and concludes with a heavy slam to the ground, targeting a character. |
During the battle, be strategic in managing your AP while focusing on high-damage skills to avoid having multiple party members consumed. Your success lies in efficient debuffing and managing your party’s offensive capabilities.
Strategies for Defeating the Bourgeon in Flying Waters

Efficient AP management is crucial for successfully defeating the Bourgeon. Higher AP levels translate into more frequent use of lightning skills, expediting the battle’s conclusion.
With only five distinct attack moves, you must consistently parry or dodge four of them to minimize damage. In the event a Bourgeon consumes a party member, they can only be freed by breaking the Bourgeon.
Perfectly timed dodges restore AP, providing an opportunity for recovery even if executed early. Mastering the timing for perfect dodges enables you to seamlessly switch to parries, allowing for counterattacks.
Launch the battle with Gustave utilizing his Powerful skill to boost your team. During subsequent turns, focus on charging Gustave’s abilities to maximize the damage output of Overcharge.
For Lune’s strategy, save AP for her powerful attacks like Thunderfall or opt for Healing Light when health is critical. Lune’s weaker skills can be used to inflict burn damage gradually.
Engage Maelle in frequent usage of her best abilities, primarily Percée, which gives her an edge. By adhering to these guidelines, you should triumph over the Bourgeon efficiently. Upon victory, you will receive:
- Bud Skin x1
- 1080 XP
- 532 Chroma
-
(Level 3)
-
(Pictos): Increases Counterattack damage by 25%.
- Chroma Catalyst x1
Utilizing the Bourgeon Skin in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

To utilize the Bourgeon skin, simply return it to the white Bourgeon in The Small Bourgeon area. Although the initial action won’t yield immediate results, after exiting and re-entering the area, you will observe the white Bourgeon has transformed.
It’s essential to actually leave the area; merely resting at the Expedition Flag will not suffice.
Upon returning, speaking with the Bourgeon will reward you with:
-

Is Attacking the White Bourgeon Advisable?

It is generally not advisable to attack the White Bourgeon. If defeated, it drops valuable items such as 5x Colour of Lumina and additional resources. However, attacking it has broader implications.
The quest involving the White Bourgeon is connected to the broader Nevron quests. Completing all tasks associated with the Nevrons rewards players with the achievement “Aiding the Enemy.”The main prize for these quests, 100x Color of Lumina, can be claimed from Blanche, who resides in the Fountain Area.
Please note, attacking any Nevrons will initiate a boss fight. Successfully defeating Blanche yields 10x Colour of Lumina and 2x additional rewards. Ultimately, your decision to attack or spare the White Bourgeon should reflect your reward preferences.
