Civilization VII Update: New Features and Enhancements

Firaxis has rolled out an exciting new update for Civilization VII, implementing several community-driven changes as outlined in their content roadmap. This update primarily focuses on enhancing player experience by addressing popular suggestions and concerns from dedicated fans. Below, we explore the key features introduced in this latest update.

Introduction of the Bermuda Triangle

Among the highlights of this update is the addition of the Bermuda Triangle, a captivating new Natural Wonder that players can discover at no extra cost. This addition aims to enrich the exploration aspect of the gameplay, inviting players to uncover its mysteries.

Cross-Play Features Re-enabled

Another significant improvement is the reactivation of cross-play capabilities between PC and console platforms. This feature enhances community interaction and allows players to enjoy a unified gaming experience, regardless of their device.

Improvements to the Modern Age

For players advancing to the Modern Age, there have been notable enhancements in the Cultural Legacy Path and Victory strategies. AI leaders now have greater chances of achieving a Cultural Victory, which alters the distribution of Explorer Units throughout the game, making the gameplay more competitive.

Religious Victory Adjustments

In a significant shift, players striving for a Religious Victory can now convert Holy Cities during the Exploration Age. Moreover, newly created Missionary Units will automatically adhere to the player’s chosen religion, streamlining the process of religious expansion.

Naval Units and Independent Powers

The ability to disperse Independent Powers has been expanded. Previously limited to land units, now Naval Units can also disperse Coastal Independent Powers. This enhancement offers a strategic advantage, especially in regions lacking land-based units.

Postponement of In-Game Events

As part of their commitment to improving gameplay quality, Firaxis has announced that the inaugural in-game event for Civilization VII has been postponed, alongside future events. This decision allows the development team to concentrate on implementing essential quality-of-life improvements for the game’s community.

Upcoming Updates

Following this update, players can anticipate another significant release, Update 1.1.1, scheduled tentatively for March 25. This upcoming update promises to introduce Quick Move functionality, customization options for Commander and City names, and yet another exciting Natural Wonder available to all players.

Future Developments

Looking ahead, the development team has outlined plans for additional enhancements, which include new map sizes for various platforms (excluding Nintendo Switch), mod tools, and support for the Steam Workshop.
