The post-launch development of Civilization 7 will center around “Collections, ”which will group themed expansions together. Kicking off the series is the Crossroads of the World Collection, included in the Deluxe and Founders editions, which will roll out over two parts in March 2025. The first installment features Ada Lovelace as a new leader and includes the civilizations of Carthage and Great Britain, notable additions to the game.

Following franchise tradition, it is anticipated that DLC collections will be available for individual purchase after their initial release in the Deluxe and Founders editions.

This initial update will also introduce four new natural wonders along with a free update featuring a Natural Wonder Battle event and the Bermuda Triangle natural wonder. The second segment of the Crossroads of the World Collection, to be released later in March, will unveil Simón Bolívar as another new leader and will add Bulgaria and Nepal as playable civilizations, both making their series debut.

Furthermore, free content will accompany this update, including the Marvelous Mountains event and the Mount Everest natural wonder. Between April and September, the game will further expand with the Right to Rule Collection, available via the Founders Edition, which will introduce two additional leaders, four new civilizations, and four new world wonders. Ongoing free updates and events will also ensure players continue to enjoy fresh content throughout 2025.

Civilization 7’s updates will primarily fall into two categories: game improvements and special events. Initially, the focus will be on addressing player-reported bugs, adjusting gameplay balance, and enhancing the user interface. These updates will be spread throughout the year. Moreover, Firaxis plans to implement missing features that did not debut at launch.

The new features include team-based multiplayer for up to eight players, customizable starting and ending ages, diverse map options, and hot seat multiplayer mode. These enhancements reinforce the evolution of 4X gaming and reintroduce elements that were not present at launch.

In addition to these updates, players can expect a variety of monthly events and challenges aimed at integrating new gameplay elements and revitalizing the Civilization 7 experience. These events will also act as a testing ground for potential features that could be incorporated into the main game based on player feedback. Anticipated events in March 2025 include the Natural Wonder Battle and Marvelous Mountains along with the introduction of new natural wonders like the Bermuda Triangle and Mount Everest.
