As players navigate through Civilization 7, they will experience a pivotal moment when the Exploration Age concludes. This transition results in the conversion of various resources into Factory Resources, which necessitate the construction of Factories for effective utilization. Consequently, during the ensuing Modern Age, players will find themselves heavily investing in Rail Stations to manage these Factory Resources within their settlements.
However, challenges may arise when attempting to connect two Rail Stations that span across bodies of water. This guide aims to equip players with the necessary knowledge to bridge that gap and successfully link Rail Stations, even when oceans lie between them.
Connecting Rail Stations Across Water in Civilization 7
Can Factories Be Established in Remote Settlements or Islands?

To construct Factories in Civilization 7, it’s essential that the settlement is connected to the Capital via railroad. If players have established their cities in remote territories or on islands without altering their Capital during the Age Transition, reaching the Capital by land becomes unfeasible. This limitation hinders the development of roads, effectively stalling railroad connections.
To successfully connect Rail Stations that are separated by water, players need to establish a Port in both the Capital city and the respective settlement. This crucial step will allow the construction of Factories and the placement of Factory Resources in island territories or Distant Land settlements.
How to Construct a Port in Civilization 7

To initiate Port construction in Civilization 7, players must first complete research on the Steam Engine Technology. This technology becomes available immediately at the onset of the Modern Age, providing essential access.
Once players have acquired this technology, they are permitted to build a Port provided their settlement features at least one Coast tile adjacent to land. Not only does the Port facilitate the connection between a water-secluded settlement and the Capital, but it also enhances resource allocation for that settlement, generating 5 Gold and providing an additional +1 Gold for each Navigable River Terrain, Coastal Terrain, or adjacent Wonder. Following the completion of the Port, players can then proceed to construct a Factory within their settlement.
