Update on Cities: Skylines II and Upcoming Expansion
As we enter 2025, updates for Cities: Skylines II from Paradox Interactive and Colossal Order have become increasingly sparse. However, the developers remain committed to providing insights on the progress of post-launch updates and expansions. The latest communications indicate that the long-anticipated Bridges & Ports expansion is nearing release.
Bridges & Ports Expansion on the Horizon
In a recent announcement, the developers confirmed that a release date for the Bridges & Ports expansion is forthcoming, as the development phase is now complete.“With the expansion in a good place, it’s time for the team at Paradox to do their magic, ” said a representative from Colossal Order. They continued, “Although we don’t have a release date yet (but very soon), you can expect two developer diaries that dive into everything Bridges & Ports has to offer. We’re excited for you to see what we’ve been working on and what you create once the expansion is available.”
Delays and Development Background
The Bridges & Ports expansion was initially scheduled for release in the second quarter of 2024 but faced delays due to significant player backlash concerning the game’s initial quality. Although it was expected to launch in early 2025, it has yet to secure a definitive release date.
Free Update: Bicycles and More
In addition to the expansion, players can look forward to the inclusion of bicycles and dedicated bicycle lanes, set to arrive as part of an upcoming free update. This feature was originally intended for the game’s launch in 2023 but was postponed due to animation issues that hindered its implementation. The new transport options will introduce various policies to manage usage, designated bike parking areas, and specific lanes dedicated solely to cyclists.

Tackling Key Gameplay Issues
Simultaneously, Colossal Order is addressing critical gameplay issues related to tourism and mail services. Players have reported a disparity between their cities’ high attractiveness ratings and the low influx of tourists, alongside persistent problems with sorting facilities despite adequate cargo services. Additionally, the studio is actively developing assets inspired by “Old Town”aesthetics and introducing new service buildings to enhance gameplay variety.
Uncertain Future for Console Port and Modding Tools
Despite the ongoing developments, no updates were provided regarding the long-delayed console port initially slated to launch in March 2023, coinciding with the PC release. Moreover, the much-anticipated Asset Editor for the modding community was also absent from this latest developer diary, leaving fans eager for any news on these issues.
