Chrome 104 offers more security and more options for screen sharing.

Google has announced the release of Chrome 104, a new version of its ubiquitous web browser, a direct clone of the Chromium code, unlike any other derivatives of the open source project, but with exclusive components from the internet giant.

Essentially, this means that Microsoft Edge 104 will also arrive these days, as well as new versions of Brave and Opera, in the absence of Vivaldi, which is a little contrary to the release cycle, although each one uses its own version numbering.

In any case, we will have to see what others bring, because in the case of Chrome 104, this is not much. This is a simplified release, very similar to the times we are in, in which the most prominent are the security fixes that the browser gets… from Chromium, and the vast majority of them are integrated into Chromium.

A curious fact in this regard is that the own patches of the development team or the company that works on it are read by the developers of other browsers, this is a lot of specialized security programmers who closely monitor the browser code for problems, and every month they are paid accordingly.

For  the release of Chrome 104 , which was in development through July, Google paid more than $87,000 for about 20 security patches or notices, ranging from $1,000 to $15,000 each. It’s data, although if you ask yourself, it’s normal that security reports, and thus patches, are much larger from one version to the next.

That’s all? Doesn’t Chrome 104 bring anything else? Actually yes .

New in Chrome 104 is support for region capture, which is a new feature that allows you to demarcate a portion of the Chrome window in video conferencing video captures, or equivalently, show only what you need rather than the entire content of a shared tab.

This is, however, a feature for websites that interact with Chrome, so it’s likely to be seen first on services like Googe Meet.

This release also completes the rollout of support for Google Lens in Chrome, an image search feature that’s also not worth much writing about. If you’re not sure, here we’ll tell you how to “fix” it.

Apart from this, Chrome 104 includes other  new features that are not visible but felt: better performance, optimizations, stability fixes, integration of new technologies such as the implementation of WebGL Canvas Color Management. So no, there’s nothing more exciting than usual in Chrome 104…but let’s not say the browser has stalled. There is nothing further from reality.
