After spending over 900 days incarcerated, rapper Young Thug, born Jeffery Lamar Williams, was released following a non-negotiated plea agreement related to his involvement in the YSL RICO case. He has been sentenced to time served as well as 15 years of probation.

Young Thug pled no contest to violations of Georgia’s RICO Act and also admitted to leading a street gang while pleading guilty to various other charges.

In court, Judge Paige Reese Whitaker inquired whether Young Thug’s decision to accept the plea was based on an admission of guilt.

“Is it your decision to waive these rights and enter a guilty plea deal because you are in fact guilty?” Judge Whitaker asked.

To this, the Grammy-winning artist answered affirmatively, until his attorney stepped in regarding one of the charges.

In the aftermath of his release, Young Thug’s girlfriend, R&B artist Mariah the Scientist, shared her excitement in a text to WSBTV’s Michael Seiden, expressing that they were thankful for the outcome, describing it as the “greatest opportunity”they could have hoped for.

“Thank you, Judge Paige Whitaker, for giving us the chance to move forward with our lives! Huge thanks to Brian Steel, Keith Adams, and the entire legal team who worked diligently on this case. THANK YOU!” Mariah stated.

Following his release, social media users created a variety of humorous memes featuring the couple. One user remarked that “Christmas came early for Mariah,” while others speculated that her next album would be filled with love songs, with some jokingly wishing to trade places with her for the evening.

“Mariah the Scientist’s next album is gonna be filled with love songs omg,” a Twitter user commented.

Young Thug’s plea marked a significant moment in the lengthy YSL RICO trial, which is noted as the most protracted trial in Georgia’s history. Many online have commented on his house arrest, suggesting that Mariah’s evening was going to be memorable.

“A 15-year probation is manageable for a millionaire who gets to snuggle with Mariah the Scientist every night, he’ll be fine LMAOO,” one user tweeted.

A Look at Mariah the Scientist and Young Thug’s Relationship Following His Release

Young Thug and Mariah the Scientist are believed to have begun dating in November 2021, after Young Stoner Life shared an affectionate photo of the two. Following his arrest in August 2022, Young Thug surprised Mariah with balloon decorations and gifts from prison.

Since 2021, Mariah the Scientist has been a vocal advocate for his freedom. She featured him in the music video for “From A Woman,”a track from her album To Be Eaten Alive, while Young Thug released a companion single titled “From A Man.”

In an interview on Way Up with Angela Yee, Mariah, whose real name is Mariah Amani Buckles, discussed how their relationship was strengthened during Thug’s incarceration.

“It feels like being in jail solidified our bond. I believe he is truly the one for me. If I weren’t convinced of that, I likely wouldn’t keep waiting,” she shared.

Mariah posted on Instagram about her struggles to visit Thug in prison due to technical issues that prevented her from accessing him on October 6, 2024. She even created a sign that read “Happy Anniversary” using tape.

During his court proceedings, Young Thug was seen wearing a black hoodie emblazoned with “I Love Mariah,”in anticipation of her birthday on October 27.

Aside from being placed under house arrest, Young Thug has been mandated to complete 100 hours of community service. He is also prohibited from contacting any gang affiliates or co-defendants and must avoid the Atlanta area for the initial 10 years of his probation, except for special situations.
