Previously, registering an account was necessary in order to use ChatGPT. This process was often viewed as tedious, as we have observed that users would have to repeatedly sign up when using the same browser. Fortunately, OpenAI is implementing some positive changes to the chatbot’s functionality. According to the company, users will now be able to access the service without needing to create an account. However, not all features announced by OpenAI will be available without an account, as we will soon see.
ChatGPT Does Not Require an Account, While Other OpenAI Products Do
OpenAI broadcasted the news through multiple outlets, beginning with a formal blog post on their website. Soon after, X published an article stating that registration is no longer required for ChatGPT users to access the service. In the company’s blog post, they also highlighted ChatGPT’s widespread success, with over 100 million weekly users across multiple countries.
“It’s core to our mission to make tools like ChatGPT broadly available so that people can experience the benefits of AI. More than 100 million people across 185 countries use ChatGPT weekly to learn something new, find creative inspiration, and get answers to their questions. Starting today, you can use ChatGPT instantly without needing to sign-up. We’re rolling this out gradually, with the aim to make AI accessible to anyone curious about its capabilities.”

Regrettably, the convenient accessibility of ChatGPT is restricted solely to the chatbot as OpenAI’s other offerings require an account to be utilized. One such product is DALL-E 3, which also mandates a subscription for operation. Moreover, OpenAI’s additional services, including the recently announced AI voice cloning service Voice Engine and the video creation platform Sora, are only accessible to a limited group of users. In fact, regular users of an OpenAI account will not receive any benefits from utilizing these services until a proper rollout is implemented.
