Charli XCX Prioritizes Acting Over Music, Announces Temporary Hiatus from Music Career
Charli XCX has recently announced her decision to take a significant break from music to shift her focus towards acting. In an exclusive interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, shared on YouTube on Wednesday, October 9, the pop sensation opened up about her future aspirations and how she intends to reshape her career.
When discussing her upcoming musical projects, Charli XCX made it clear that new music won’t be on the horizon for some time, stating:
“Yeah, I think it’s probably like no music for a while. Like, you know…like quite a while. And also just…I want to act now. So, I’m more…I’m there. I’m already there, thinking about that stuff a little bit more.”
The talented artist, known for her hit “Brat”, has dipped her toes in acting and has expressed enthusiasm for exploring the film industry. Early in 2023, she was cast in a remake of the cult classic horror film *Faces of Death*, starring alongside Barbie Ferreira and Dacre Montgomery. This project, helmed by Daniel Goldhaber, is currently in the post-production phase.
In addition to *Faces of Death*, Charli XCX has several upcoming film roles lined up, including a significant part in three other movies and a guest spot in a comedy series. She is set to portray Rosa in the fantasy romance *100 Nights Hero*, alongside Nicholas Galitzine, and will participate in *I Want Your S*x* with Olivia Wilde, as well as the Polish film *Erupcja*.
Filmmaker Pete Ohs Praises Charli XCX’s Acting Skills
While her acting journey is just beginning, Charli XCX is already earning accolades from her colleagues. Pete Ohs, director of the upcoming film *Erupcja*, is among those impressed by her talent. Ohs, known for his work on *Everything Beautiful is Far Away* and *Jethica*, shared his thoughts on collaborating with the pop star.
In an interview with *Variety* on October 7, Ohs discussed his experience working with Charli XCX, praising her performance and ability, stating:
“Charli is an excellent actress. She is a performer. She understands what it’s like to have a camera pointed at her. She understands how to convey things through all the different ways in which we communicate, whether it’s with body language or your voice or your facial expressions.”
Ohs also shared insights from a particular scene that showcased Charli’s remarkable skills, recalling how she delivered a powerful emotional moment without any prompting. He confirmed that she is indeed a “legit actress,”expressing pride in their collaborative effort during the ‘Brat’ summer.
As for her *Brat Summer* project, Charli is preparing to launch her *Brat remix album* on October 11. In her conversation with Zane Lowe, she discussed the remix of “Girl, so confusing,”featuring Lorde, which kicked off the entire album project. Charli candidly expressed her initial insecurities about releasing the original track, worried about Lorde’s potential reaction:
“I was ready for her to never speak to me again. That could have been an outcome.”
She explained that due to time zone differences, she didn’t give Lorde a chance to preview the song before its release. However, upon finally informing the New Zealander about it, she learned that Lorde had already heard the track. This led to an exchange of voice notes, culminating in the remix collaboration.
Charli XCX’s upcoming remix album features both new renditions and tracks revisited, including “Girl, so confusing”with Lorde, “Talk talk”with Troye Sivan, and collaborations with Bon Iver, Robyn, and others.
