Chappell Roan Opens Up About How She Sparked a Bar Fight After a Man Insulted a Server
Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, better known by her stage name Chappell Roan, recently shared a compelling story about a bar fight she had while defending a server. In her interview with The Guardian on September 20, 2024, the rising pop singer recounted how she confronted a man who was disrespecting waitstaff.
“If you’re an ***hole, I’m gonna be like: ‘Yo, f**k off.’ You don’t get to talk to her like that,”she stated, further emphasizing, “I’m confrontational.”
The talented artist behind the hit track “Good Luck, Babe”and her friends quickly intervened, and the situation quickly escalated into a physical altercation.
Chappell Roan gained fame with her 2020 single “Pink Pony Club.”Her debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess (2023), secured her a spot on Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts World Tour and garnered widespread recognition. Over the years, Roan has been vocal about her views, advocating for the LGBTQ+ community, mental health awareness, and even commenting on the situation in Palestine.
“Everything that I really love to do now comes with baggage”— Chappell Roan on fame
“I think it’s because my whole life has changed. Everything that I really love to do now comes with baggage. If I want to go thrifting, I have to book security and prepare myself that this is not going to be normal. Going to the park, pilates, yoga – how do I do this in a safe way where I’m not going to be stalked or harassed?”she shared with The Guardian.
Roan mentioned that her need for personal boundaries has led some fans to label her as “ungrateful.”
During the recent MTV VMAs, the singer confronted a photographer who was yelling at her, demanding they “shut the f*ck up.”Later that night, she told Entertainment Tonight that she experiences anxiety, and the situation was “overwhelming and quite scary.”
Reflecting on the incident, Chappell Roan elaborated to The Guardian that while some women in the industry are accustomed to the spotlight, she refuses to tolerate being dismissed by a man demanding her silence.
“They think I’m complaining about my success. I’m complaining about being abused,”she asserted.
In June, Roan declined an invitation to perform at the White House during a Pride event. At the 2024 Governor’s Ball Music Festival in Flushing Meadows, she addressed the invitation, stating:
“This is a response to the White House, who asked me to perform for Pride. We want liberty, justice, and freedom for all. When you do that, that’s when I’ll come.”
Her refusal was rooted in President Joe Biden’s stance on the ongoing Israel and Palestine conflict.
Chappell Roan is recognized for her drag-inspired aesthetics and captivating performances during her shows. Her debut album was released amid a troubling rise in anti-trans rhetoric and the criminalization of drag performances.
Currently, Chappell Roan is on her The Midwest Princess Tour, with her next performance scheduled in New York.
