The speculation first gained traction on TikTok on October 17, when user @tamzintruman posted an 8-second video containing the caption, “Why have I just read that Beyoncé was in the same hotel as Liam Payne 2 days before he died?!” The audio track featured J. Cole’s song “She Knows,”and the video was tagged with the following:

“By no means am I trying to be disrespectful, I’m just sharing what I’ve read #liampayne #beyonce #sheknows #fyp.”

Various TikTok users, including @newsdecodefy and @pradab4be, also contributed similar claims, showcasing footage of Liam Payne supporting his former bandmate Harry Styles during the 2023 Grammy Awards. Notably, Styles won Album of the Year for “Harry’s House,”surpassing Beyoncé’s “Renaissance.”

Moreover, videos discussing the conspiracy included an old clip of a young Liam allegedly stating, “Ignore Beyoncé” during an early One Direction interview.

As the rumors circulated, fans of the late singer began to react to the widespread claims on various social media platforms. For example, a Reddit user, @macadoo784, humorously commented on @Kushalbrl’s post discussing the conspiracy theory:

“So, Beyoncé is some sort of celebrity secret assassin? Out to get all those who ever criticized her?”

Many others joined the discussion, criticizing those who promoted the conspiracy theory, expressing their frustration on the platform X.

“Beyoncé was not in the same hotel. Why do people spread stupid lies when something happens?” one fan commented.

“Blaming Beyoncé for Liam’s death is absurd. Are people that clueless or getting paid to be this stupid? A TikTok with over 560k likes blaming Beyoncé…” another fan added.

“You know what? I’m not prepared to engage with this level of stupidity,” stated another user.

Others continued to ridicule those promoting the theory linking Beyoncé to Liam Payne’s death.

“Are you kidding me? I understand the context, but he just died—this is not the appropriate time for that,” another individual wrote.

“So Liam Payne passes away, and some belittle the situation by joking that he forgot to thank Beyoncé. Some people are truly lacking in boundaries,” commented another user.

Conversely, a small number of users appeared to resonate with the TikTok conspiracy theories.

“Liam Payne from One Direction just died! Beyoncé, you better not be involved…” one user stated.

“Perhaps Liam Payne forgot to thank Beyoncé, I don’t know,” said another.

“So you’re suggesting that Liam Payne didn’t thank Beyoncé once AND NOW THIS?”a netizen wrote.

This conspiracy theory linking Beyoncé to Liam Payne’s tragic passing aligns with the ‘She Knows’ trend and the ‘Thank You, Beyoncé’ memes, which gained traction after Sean “Diddy” Combs was recently arrested and indicted.

The first theory posited that the Cowboy Carter songstress potentially had insight into the Diddy scandal, among others within the music industry. Additionally, there are references to the 2013 J. Cole hit “She Knows,”believed to hint at the untimely deaths of various celebrities, including Aaliyah, Left Eye, and MJ.

The latter notion was a lighthearted quip paired with admiration, suggesting that as long as individuals expressed gratitude towards Beyoncé, they would avoid bad fortune.

Understanding the events leading to Liam Payne’s passing

Liam Payne tragically passed away on October 16, 2024, after falling from a third-floor hotel balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, at the age of 31. Preliminary findings reported by Argentine outlet Clarin indicated that he succumbed to “multiple traumas” and “internal and external bleeding.”

According to Vice, Alberto Crescenti, head of Argentina’s medical response team, shared that a 911 call was received at 5:04 PM regarding a person who had fallen into the hotel’s interior courtyard. The ambulance arrived seven minutes later, but Liam “had injuries incompatible with life.”

“This man had injuries incompatible with life… very serious injuries as a result of the fall he suffered… The team could do absolutely nothing… The whole body had very serious injuries,” Crescenti stated.

Additionally, a separate 911 call was made by a hotel staff member requesting urgent assistance for a guest believed to be “overloaded with drugs and alcohol.” The employee described how Payne had been disruptive while “conscious” and expressed concern for his safety, noting that the room featured a balcony, raising fears he might attempt to harm himself. The transcript of the 911 call was disclosed by Reuters on October 18, 2024.

In reaction to his untimely passing, Liam’s family released a heartfelt statement saying, “We are heartbroken. Liam will forever live in our hearts, and we’ll remember him for his kind, funny, and brave spirit.” They also requested “privacy and space” during this challenging time.

Likewise, his former One Direction bandmates expressed their devastation in a joint statement, stating they were “devastated” by the loss of their “brother, whom we loved dearly,” and requested space to “grieve and process” this tragedy.

Liam is survived by his 7-year-old son Bear Payne, his parents, and his two sisters.
