DC Comics has woven itself into the fabric of my life from an early age. I fondly recall my brother’s declaration that it didn’t matter whether he welcomed a brother or sister; he would ensure I embraced his passions, which included his adoration for Superman.
With James Gunn revitalizing the Superman universe, the return of our iconic superhero is particularly poignant for both me and my brother. This summer, audiences can look forward to seeing David Corenswet don the cape of Clark Kent once again. However, Gunn’s vision extends beyond the usual narrative, promising an intriguing expansion of the Superman lore.
In addition to the much-anticipated Superman film, we’re also set to welcome Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. To celebrate this upcoming release, Gunn recently shared an image featuring Milly Alcock, renowned for her role in House of the Dragon, as she immerses herself in the comic that serves as the basis for Kara Zor-El’s solo adventure. He expressed his excitement with a heartfelt message:
Today we celebrate #Supergirl and all her various incarnations. Can’t wait for you to see the latest version, portrayed by the indomitable @millyalcock, in June 2026. Photo by Parisa Taghizadeh.pic.twitter.com/3sXwAFfxJb

Two consecutive Junes filled with Superman-related content? This is truly emotional for me. Milly Alcock’s portrayal of Kara has me inspired, and I commend Gunn for his swift commitment to broadening the Superfamily narrative, moving beyond just Clark’s story. Additionally, I appreciate that Gunn has made it a point to highlight the comics that have influenced these films.
While specific details about Woman of Tomorrow remain scarce, fans can dive into the source material to get a glimpse of what’s to come.
We Need Our Hope Now More Than Ever
It’s common for people to underestimate the significance of the Superfamily. While the impressive abilities of Clark Kent and Kara Zor-El often lead to their being seen as less relatable, it’s crucial to recognize that figures like Superman and Supergirl hold tremendous relevance today. In a world filled with challenges and uncertainties, their stories can serve as beacons of hope.
In contrast to her cousin, Kara faces substantial challenges regarding humanity’s treatment of one another. I am eager to see how Gunn will portray the distinct differences between Kara and Clark, especially regarding their outlook on the world.
Moreover, it brings me joy to see the DC universe being handled with the respect and care it deserves. The multitude of characters in this expansive comic universe holds deep significance for fans, and it has been a fascinating journey to reach this point where excitement for the franchise’s future is palpable.
So here’s to Kara: We’re eagerly awaiting your arrival!
