CD Projekt RED Celebrates A Monumental Achievement: The Witcher Goes to Space
CD Projekt RED has achieved an extraordinary milestone with its renowned franchise, The Witcher. This noteworthy accomplishment transcends traditional sales figures, marking a unique venture into the cosmos. In collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA), Polish astronaut Uznański-Wiśniewski carried two iconic Witcher medallions during his journey to the International Space Station (ISS) this past July. This event symbolically brought The Witcher saga to the stars.
As recounted in CD Projekt RED’s recent blog post, the medallions represent significant elements of the franchise—Geralt’s Wolf medallion and the Lynx medallion worn by Ciri in the upcoming The Witcher 4 game. By taking these medallions aboard the ISS and capturing memorable imagery with them, Uznański-Wiśniewski has established a historical connection between The Witcher and space exploration.
“We’ve come a long way over the years, but seeing our Witcher medallions reach outer space is something else, ” remarked Michał Nowakowski, joint CEO of CD Projekt RED.“This is a huge honor, and we’re grateful to the European Space Agency for facilitating this venture. It’s a testament to the fact that Polish creativity and ambition can truly reach the stars.”
Although Uznański-Wiśniewski was unable to play The Witcher aboard the ISS, the medallions’ journey holds a greater symbolic value. In a way, the act of carrying these tokens of fantasy signifies far more than a gamer’s escape into the witcher’s world—it’s about the intersection of imagination and exploration beyond Earth.
Reflecting on this unique experience, Uznański-Wiśniewski stated, “No matter where I trained for my mission, everyone I spoke to with an interest in space, sci-fi, fantasy, and so on already knew about Poland — because of The Witcher. As the Wolf and Lynx medallions drifted in orbit, I saw more than symbols; I saw imagination made real. The Witcher reminds us that every frontier, whether on Earth or beyond, begins with the courage to dream of what’s next.”
This achievement underscores not only the cultural impact of The Witcher but also highlights the innovative spirit that characterizes both the gaming and space exploration industries. It’s an undeniably exciting chapter in The Witcher’s legacy, showcasing how far creative narratives can reach—quite literally, into the cosmos.
