Scott Snyder, the renowned writer behind Batman, has recently revealed eagerly awaited details about the entrance of Catwoman into the narrative. His hints about the future trajectory of the BatCat romance within the Absolute Universe have left fans buzzing with anticipation about what is in store.
With Snyder articulating Bruce Wayne’s motivations concerning marriage, family, and personal happiness, readers are intrigued by how these themes will intertwine with Catwoman’s story arc.
In a recent interview with Comics Beat, Snyder addressed the pressing inquiry: “Where’s Selina?” This question emphasizes fan curiosity about how the Absolute Universe will reshape the famed duo’s relationship and the excitement surrounding Selina Kyle’s anticipated role in the unfolding plot.
Snyder confirmed that while readers have encountered her through flashbacks in her childhood, Catwoman will officially debut in the current timeline during the second story arc. The buildup to her character’s return includes thrilling elements of BatCat dynamics, prompting speculation about the evolution of their relationship.

Delving into the nature of BatCat, Snyder expressed his viewpoint on the romantic relationship between Selina and Bruce. He confessed that he has never found their romance particularly compelling, describing it as lacking a believable bond. According to Snyder, their interactions are often cyclical: “they get close, and then it’s doomed to fail because they’re both deeply committed to what they’re doing.” Many readers who are less favorable toward the BatCat romance may find this perspective relatable.
Additionally, Snyder shared insights into his interpretation of Bruce’s ambitions and personal objectives. He argues that Batman is not portrayed as someone yearning for a traditional family life involving marriage and children. While acknowledging that various takes on the character might depict that scenario as a feasible narrative, Snyder firmly believes that “he’s someone who gets total happiness and fulfillment from the work that he does.” Thus, it’s evident that the Absolute Batman narrative does not seem to be paving the way for a romantic conclusion between Catwoman and Bruce.
Scott Snyder: For me, Bruce is almost more like, and again I must stress, there are other versions of him that I think are just as valid and would probably be happy in a different situation, but my belief about the version that I like to build when writing him in the main line is that he’s someone who gets total happiness and fulfillment from the work that he does. He’s happy making sure the world is safer and that people are inspired by what he does. And that is enough for him as it is for some people. You know what I mean? He’s not sad or missing something by not being married with kids in the main universe to me.
