“Casper Ruud waging a one-man campaign against trolls” – Fans delighted by Norwegian shutting down false claim about his Paris Olympics participation
Tennis enthusiasts were pleased when Casper Ruud refuted a false statement on social media about his involvement in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
A now-deleted post on X (formerly Twitter) stated that instead of competing at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Ruud would be participating in the Austrian Open Kitzbuhel. The user also referred to the annual ATP 250 tournament as ‘meaningless’.
“So Casper Ruud is skipping Olympics for a meaningless 250 again but I’m a hater for speaking the truth,”the user wrote.
Ruud effectively shut down the false claim made by the user with a simple, five-word response.
“April fools was yesterday buddy..,”the three-time Grand Slam finalist wrote.
Fans were delighted by the response of the current world number 8 in ATP rankings. One fan even commented that Ruud has made a commendable effort to silence social media trolls, evident from his interactions with critics over the past year.
“Casper waging a one-man campaign against trolls on twitter this past year,”the fan wrote.
One other fan believed that Ruud’s reaction alone was deserving of a gold medal.
“This one deserves a gold medal itself I fear,”the fan commented.
Another individual also noted that Ruud had resorted to using ‘violence’ in response to the false accusation.
“Oh Casper chose violence,”the fan wrote.

It was later confirmed by another user that participating in the Austrian Open Kitzbuhel should not hinder players’ chances of competing at the Paris Olympics.
“Taming the Power: Casper Ruud’s Journey to Success”
In 2022, Casper Ruud reached his career-high ranking of World No. 2 after reaching the US Open final, where he was defeated by Carlos Alcaraz. He also reached the final of the 2022 French Open, but was ultimately defeated by his role model Rafael Nadal.
In 2023, Ruud once again made it to the French Open final. However, this time he faced defeat at the hands of Novak Djokovic. As a result, the 25-year-old’s performance saw a significant decline.
In a recent interview, Ruud reflected on the moment that motivated him to make adjustments to his game in order to become more competitive. This moment occurred after he suffered a disappointing defeat in the second round of the 2023 US Open against Zhang Zhizhen.
“I was just running out there defending and defending and hustling and not really doing anything with the ball. So I sat down in the locker room, obviously a year after reaching the final there thinking, ‘Something has to change, because this trend is not the right direction’,”Ruud told ATPTour.com.
Currently competing in the Estoril Open, Ruud is scheduled to go head-to-head against Botic van de Zandschulp in the Round-of-16.
