In April 2022, a lovestruck guard and a murder suspect fled an Alabama jail together. This is the true story of their unbelievable run from the law.
Who is Casey White?
Casey White, now 41 years old, was already serving a 75-year prison term for a range of violent offenses when he gained notoriety for his 2022 escape. According to CNN, in 2015, he was implicated in a violent home invasion, carjacking, and multiple shootings.
In 2019, he was convicted of attempted murder and first-degree robbery. His predicament worsened when he confessed to an additional crime while incarcerated.
In 2020, during his time at the William E. Donaldson Correctional Facility, Casey sent a letter to the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office, confessing to the murder of Connie Ridgeway in 2015. This led to capital murder charges and his subsequent transfer to the Lauderdale County Detention Center for trial.
Subsequently, he retracted his confession and entered a not guilty plea. By this point, he had formed a close relationship with Vicky White. Inmates and guards noted that Casey was amicable but could become violent, especially if he used drugs. This connection ultimately precipitated their daring escape.
After an extensive 11-day manhunt, Casey White was captured in Evansville, Indiana, following a car crash while evading police. Vicky took her life at the scene, and Casey surrendered peacefully.
According to NBC News, Casey eventually admitted guilt in the escape charges, and in a deal, the murder charge for Vicky’s death was dismissed. He is now serving a life sentence with no possibility of parole.
