Pei candidly discussed the company’s branding evolution, noting that the acquisition was not technology-driven. Before finalizing the name “Nothing, ” Pei considered alternatives, including “Stone, ” but ultimately felt a connection to the Essential brand. It is noteworthy that Pei chose to invest in acquiring the rights to Essential, even after the brand had ceased operations. Despite gaining access to various assets from Essential, he opted to retain “Nothing” as the official company name.

Pei reiterated that technology played no role in the acquisition, even humorously referencing the unreleased Project Gem, which had been a part of Essential’s offerings.
