Captain Glenn of Below Deck Sailing Yacht Voices Frustration Over Chef Cloyce’s Departure from the Charter

In the fourth episode of season five of Below Deck Sailing Yacht, Captain Glenn Shephard faced a significant challenge when Chef Cloyce Martin unexpectedly stepped away from his cooking responsibilities.

In a reality show where efficiency and professionalism are critical, Cloyce’s choice to join guests on a floating activity during lunch preparation raised eyebrows.

This incident pushed Captain Glenn’s patience to the limit, as he voiced his disappointment over Cloyce prioritizing leisure over his essential duties. Reflecting on the situation, Glenn stated,

“He’s got to realize he’s here for a reason. He isn’t a guest.”

Captain Glenn’s Discontent on Below Deck Sailing Yacht

Cloyce’s inclination to socialize rather than prepare lunch disrupted the team’s dynamic. Captain Glenn’s frustration mounted as he entered the galley pre-lunch, where he noted minimal progress on the meal.

Understanding the guests would soon return, he radioed the crew, inquiring, “Does anyone know where Chef is?” First Officer Gary informed him that Cloyce was still out on the float with the guests, further escalating Glenn’s irritation.

“What the f*ck is happening?” he expressed. Driven by his commitment to providing top-notch service, Glenn insisted that Cloyce return to the boat immediately, stating emphatically,

“He’s not here to have fun; he must be ready to serve at four.”

Captain Glenn reiterated that his primary objective is to ensure a positive guest experience, which hinges on effective teamwork and delivering “five-star meals, not playing with water toys.”

Guest Discontent Due to Lunch Delays

As Cloyce rushed to catch up in the kitchen, the late lunch caused discontent among the guests. Many were anticipating their meal by the time they got back to the Parsifal III, and the lack of readiness tested their patience.

Some mentioned their hunger, while a guest even voiced concerns about returning for another charter if the service didn’t improve. The ongoing delay compelled Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher to contact Cloyce and urge him to speed up preparations.

Observing Cloyce as he frantically chopped herbs, Daisy could see that he was struggling with the time crunch. “This is so stressful,” she commented while waiting, ultimately stepping in to streamline the lunch service.

Though the guests were ultimately satisfied with the meal featuring salmon, salad, and chicken, the earlier delay had already diminished their overall experience. Cloyce later admitted in a confessional that he “underestimated [his] timing” by opting to socialize with the guests.

Communication Issues Among Crew Members

Cloyce’s momentary absence was merely one of several issues faced by the crew this season on Below Deck Sailing Yacht. Additionally, several miscommunications arose between Daisy and Cloyce about meal timings and preparations.

Feeling as if Cloyce was trying to transfer the burden of the delays onto her, Daisy confided in Gary, stating, “Me and the chef are gonna fight,” noting that Cloyce had attempted to “throw [her] under the bus.”

Daisy, who oversees the interior operations, emphasized the need for clear communication among all crew members, highlighting how Cloyce’s actions led to unnecessary complications.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht airs Mondays at 9/8c on Bravo.
