CAPCOM’s Confidence in Resident Evil Requiem Performance
CAPCOM is optimistic regarding the performance of its upcoming flagship title, Resident Evil Requiem, and reassures fans that it will not encounter the same issues seen in its previous major release, Monster Hunter Wilds.
Key Insights from Recent Conference Call
Today, the Japanese gaming publisher released a translated Q&A from its latest conference call concerning the first half of the fiscal year. During the session, a concerned investor raised questions about performance issues related to previous titles, prompting a detailed response from the company.
Resident Evil Requiem differs from Monster Hunter Wilds in terms of gameplay, system architecture, and network features. At present, we do not anticipate similar risks. We are developing the game to provide a smooth gaming experience across a wide range of PC specifications.
Distinct Gameplay and Technical Features
While Resident Evil Requiem and Monster Hunter Wilds are both significant releases for CAPCOM, their gameplay mechanics and technical frameworks are fundamentally different. Notably, Monster Hunter Wilds attempted an open-world hunting experience which highlighted certain performance limitations of the RE Engine, particularly seen in earlier titles such as Dragon’s Dogma 2, which also suffered from technical hitches.
After a successful launch, Monster Hunter Wilds experienced a notable decline in sales, even trailing behind established titles like Devil May Cry 5. The performance difficulties, particularly on PC platforms, led to significant backlash, with CAPCOM ultimately canceling a planned lecture on the game’s technical aspects due to threats directed at their team.
Optimized Development for a Smooth Experience
However, the prospects for Resident Evil Requiem appear promising. Originally conceived as an open-world multiplayer experience, the game has since transitioned into a single-player format with more compact environments, where the RE Engine has proven to be effective. Interestingly, developers have noted that the game runs exceptionally well on the Nintendo Switch 2, which is the least powerful platform in their lineup.
Sales Targets and Market Expectations
In the same Q&A session, CAPCOM executives shared their ambition to exceed the sales figures of the previous series installment, Resident Evil Village. For context, Resident Evil Village reached impressive sales of three million units within just four days of its release, ranking it as the third-fastest selling game in the survival horror genre.
