Canadian filmmaker Xavier Dolan seemingly responds to Millie Bobby Brown’s comments about not being a fan of movies

Xavier Dolan, the Canadian filmmaker and actor, appeared to indirectly criticize Millie Bobby Brown on his social media after she stated that she lacks the attention span to watch entire movies.

During the promotion of her new Netflix movie Damsel on March 24, 2024, Brown revealed to The Sun that she is not one to watch movies, even though her film has become the most popular title on the streaming platform for the week.

“I don’t watch movies. People come up to me and say, ‘You should definitely watch this movie, it would change your life’. ‘And I’m like, ‘How long do I have to sit there for?’ Because my brain and I don’t even like sitting for my own movies.”

After her confession, it appears that Xavier Dolan responded through his Instagram stories by sharing her quote and following it with a meme in the next story that read: “K.”

Xavier Dolan criticizes Millie Bobby Brown for her lack of interest in movies

Xavier Dolan, born on March 20, 1989, in Montreal, Canada, is a 35-year-old actor and filmmaker. He started his career in the entertainment industry as a young actor and later went on to direct multiple arthouse feature films.

On March 30, this Saturday, actor Xavier Dolan sparked controversy on Instagram after seemingly shading Millie Bobby Brown. The acclaimed actor, known for his roles in I Killed My Mother (2009), Tom at the Farm (2013) and Heartbeats (2010), took to the social media platform to express his thoughts on Brown’s statement about not enjoying watching movies, even ones she has starred in.

After referencing the quote, Xavier Dolan shared an article from @moviesethumor and followed it up with a separate meme. The meme featured a screenshot from a scene in The Shining, where Jack Torrence (played by Jack Nicholson) is seen looking annoyed. The caption below the meme simply read: “K.”

Dolan appeared to express disapproval towards Millie’s viewpoint on films, possibly due to her status as a highly acclaimed actress. However, in an interview with The Sun on March 24, Brown also revealed her tendency to multi-task while watching movies.

“I just have to be doing something. So I either eat too much, because I’m just bored. Or I have to be doing something, baking, grooming a dog, or on my computer. If I’m not doing something I just can’t sit there and look at the screen for that long. It’s not to say the movie isn’t epic and cinematic and brilliant, or that there aren’t amazing performances. I love some of these actors,”she said.

Despite not being a huge fan of movies, Brown shared that her fiancee, Jake Bongiovi, has a passion for films and can spend hours watching them. She also discussed her busy schedule due to filming the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, leaving her with little free time for leisure activities.

“My fiancé is the biggest movie buff. He just sits and watches movies all day. And I cannot do that. That is the one thing I can’t sit down and do. But I really love Lara Croft in Tomb Raider, I love Mad Max. So I feel like I’m always channeling that inner bada*s.”

After two years of dating, Jake asked Millie to marry him while they were scuba-diving last April. The couple is now planning their wedding.

In February, Xavier Dolan was appointed as the President of the Un Certain Regard Jury for the 77th edition of Cannes. He has gained recognition at Cannes for his films, including the Jury Prize winner Mommy, and has now been selected to lead the jury.
