“Can I borrow”- Danielle Collins gushes over Jessica Pegula’s outfit at Charleston Open party, seeks permission from American to sport it herself
At the Charleston Open player party, former World No. 7 Danielle Collins praised Jessica Pegula’s fashionable attire.
As the hardcourt season draws to a close, the tennis circuit will now transition to the clay courts, beginning with the Charleston Open 2024. While Collins had a remarkable winning streak at the Miami Open, Pegula made it to the quarterfinals but ultimately lost to Ekaterina Alexandrova in a closely contested three-set match.
During the celebrations in Charleston, attendees were seen taking a break from the court to enjoy the event’s traditional players’ party. After admiring Pegula’s stylish black ensemble at the party, Collins playfully asked for permission to wear it herself.
“Can I borrow your outfit,”Danielle Collins commented on the post
Despite their friendly relationship off the court, Pegula and Collins are both well-established players on the tour. They have met five times on the main tour, with Pegula emerging victorious in all five of their head-to-head battles.
The current World No. 5 recently congratulated Collins on her remarkable win at the Miami Open, which was the most significant achievement of her professional career. In response to a post by the WTA’s official social media account featuring Collins’ initials ‘DC’ and a fire emoji, she expressed her admiration.
Despite being a former World No. 3, Sloane Stephens took the time to congratulate Collins on her first ever WTA 1000 title win.
“We love to see it!!!!!!! Congratulations Danielle,”Sloane Stephens wrote on X (formerly Twitter)
“Don’t Hang Up Your Racquet Yet!”- Chris Evert Urges Danielle Collins to Reconsider Retirement Plans
Chris Evert, a renowned tennis player, has advised Danielle Collins to rethink her decision to retire after her impressive victory at the Miami Open last week.
Despite a lackluster start to her campaign in 2024, Collins revealed her intention to retire at the end of the season. However, she surprised the tennis community by dominating the competition in Miami and securing her first title in nearly three years.
After observing the impressive tennis skills displayed by American player and 18-time Grand Slam champion Chris Evert, she not only praised Collins but also expressed doubts about her decision to retire.
“A big Hug and Congratulations to Danielle Collins in winning the #MiamiOpen. Spectacular play throughout the whole tournament….but….”Are you really sure you want to retire?”, Chris Evert wrote on her X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday
Despite not commenting on Evert’s post, Collins has previously expressed her reasons for making this decision.
“I’m living with a chronic inflammatory disease that affects your ability to get pregnant. That’s a deeply personal situation,”Danielle Collins said
The woman, who is 30 years old, acknowledged the inquiries about her retirement and stood by her decision, asking for people to back her choice.
“No, I’m not (smiling). Thank you, though. I feel like all of these questions are coming from such a good place, because I feel like a lot of people would like to continue seeing me play well,”Danielle Collins clarified in her post-match press conference.
“But like I said, I have some health challenges, and with those health challenges, it makes things for me away from the court a little more difficult. I hope everyone can respect that. It’s a very emotional and personal thing. Yeah,”she added.
