Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Beta Now Live – Cheating Issues Arise Even in Early Access

The Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Multiplayer Beta Launches with Early Access

The much-anticipated multiplayer beta for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has officially commenced its early access phase, now available to players who have pre-ordered the game as well as subscribers to Xbox Game Pass.

Cheating Issues Arise Early in the Beta

As reported by Eurogamer, the launch has not been without controversy. Despite promises from Treyarch and Activision regarding enhanced anti-cheat measures, the beta quickly became a target for cheaters. The developers even encouraged cheaters to test the system, stating, “Cheaters will try to test the limits during the Beta. That’s exactly what we want because #TeamRICOCHET is here, watching, learning, and removing them as they appear.”

Immediate Reports of Cheating

Interestingly, the clip shared by ModernWarzone has already led to the identification and banning of the offending account by Treyarch. This suggests that while the team is actively working to eliminate cheaters as they surface, there are questions regarding the effectiveness of their preventative strategies, especially considering the absence of Secure Boot protections that were implemented in Battlefield 6.

The Challenge of Anti-Cheat Measures

While banning cheaters post-incident might indicate that anti-cheat mechanisms are functioning, it does little to mitigate the frustration experienced by players whose gameplay has already been disrupted. Cheaters who wreak havoc in matches may only face consequences after the fact, leaving many players dissatisfied.

The ongoing struggle against cheating in multiplayer games is a nuanced issue that developers face every day. It raises pertinent questions about the efficacy of kernel-level anti-cheat measures, particularly in light of the recent beta’s launch and associated challenges. With the constant evolution of cheating tactics, developers must prioritize not only reactive measures but also proactive strategies to safeguard the gaming experience from the outset.
