Many commentators expressed doubt about Beyoncé’s decision to prioritize this pricey fragrance over music videos for her earlier albums. Some even likened her to Rihanna, who has shifted her focus towards her successful beauty line, Fenty Beauty, opting to stay away from releasing new music for an extended period. Below are some reactions shared under @PopBase’s post on X:

“I hope she doesn’t end up like Rihanna or I’ll be devastated,”one user expressed.

“Looks like she’s embracing her business mogul phase, guess we won’t see those visuals anymore,”another remarked.

“Alright, I’ll just say it, Rihanna makes this look effortless. It feels like Beyoncé isn’t heeding the fans’ pleas for visuals. Instead, we’re getting products when we’re struggling financially, it’s beginning to feel tone-deaf,”@ingt25 noted.

In contrast, other fans praised the perfume:

“I can’t even be mad because her products are genuinely top-notch,”one fan shared.

“I bet this will be as legendary as she is,”@rk_hafeez added.

“I’m super excited for this fragrance,”another wrote.

Cé Lumière Debuts Exactly One Year After Cé Noir

Beyoncé’s Instagram announcement about the new fragrance garnered over 250,000 likes and went viral. The product description highlights that it is crafted in France and encompasses vibrant top notes of Madagascar black pepper and Italian Mandarin, heart notes of jasmine sambac absolute and rhubarb, rounded off with base notes of Indonesian patchouli and skin musk. Shipping is slated to commence in November 2024.

The name Cé Lumière translates to “light”in French, representing a thematic contrast to her previous fragrance, Cé Noir, which symbolizes “darkness”. Cé Noir featured notes of clementine and golden honey at its top, with a heart of rose absolute and jasmine sambac, and base notes of Namibian myrrh and golden amber.

The design and marketing of Cé Lumière echo the aesthetics of her latest album, Cowboy Carter. Notably, Cé Noir was linked to Beyoncé’s Renaissance album and its accompanying tour, both of which emphasized themes of dreams and night.

“I felt it was crucial, at a time when visuals are everywhere, for people to focus on the music,”she expressed.

She elaborated that she wanted listeners to recognize the effort and detail invested in crafting an album.

Cé Lumière is the latest among numerous ventures Beyoncé has undertaken this year, following the launch of her whiskey brand, SirDavis, in collaboration with Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton in August.
