BTS’s Jin Provides Support by Serving Meals and Comforting Andong Residents Affected by Recent Wildfires

BTS Member Jin Joins Relief Efforts in Andong

On Thursday, Jin, better known as Kim Seokjin from the global sensation BTS, made a heartfelt contribution to the wildfire recovery efforts in Andong, South Korea. This city has recently faced devastating wildfires, prompting community support initiatives.

Volunteer Work at Gilan Middle School

During his time in Andong, Jin volunteered at Gilan Middle School in Gilan-myeon, where he took on the important role of serving meals and providing emotional support to local residents affected by the catastrophic fires. In an effort to remain incognito, Jin donned a modest outfit consisting of a black cap, mask, and gray apron, seamlessly blending in with fellow volunteers who were also dedicated to delivering food to those in need.

One local resident expressed admiration for Jin’s humility, stating, “I heard he’s a famous celebrity, but to me, he appeared to be a kind and hardworking young man. Even amidst the other volunteers, he quietly focused on his work without seeking attention.“

Organized Meal Service for Fire Victims

The meal service that Jin participated in was organized by Theborn Korea, a charitable initiative led by chef Baek Jong-won. Since March 28, the program has been committed to delivering over 300 meals per serving to wildfire victims, emergency responders, and fellow volunteers.

Support from BTS Members and Community Impact

Jin’s charitable actions are part of a wider effort by BTS members to assist in relief efforts. Jungkook has notably donated 1 billion won (approximately $750, 000), while V has contributed 200 million won (around $150, 000).Additionally, members RM, J-Hope, and Suga each donated 100 million won (about $75, 000), collectively bolstering recovery initiatives throughout the affected regions.

A Crisis in South Korea

The severity of the wildfires in South Korea has been alarming, as they have ranked among the worst in the country’s history. Since igniting on March 21, these blazes have already devastated over 48, 000 hectares (119, 000 acres), claiming the lives of at least 31 individuals, which includes four brave firefighters and a helicopter pilot. Moreover, approximately 37, 000 residents have been displaced, many of whom are currently relying on temporary shelters.

The damage to infrastructure has been considerable, with more than 6, 000 structures destroyed, encompassing homes and significant cultural heritage sites. A particularly tragic loss includes parts of the historic Gounsa Temple located in Uiseong County, which has origins tracing back to the 7th century.
