On Monday, September 30, the court issued a summary judgment regarding BTS SUGA’s DUI case. The ruling resulted in a fine of 15 million KRW, which is approximately 11,500 USD. Summary judgments are typically associated with minor infractions and often eliminate the need for a trial.
Consequently, it is advised that BTS’ SUGA pays the imposed fine. Should the idol accept the judgment and pay the fine, the case will be closed. Conversely, if he chooses to reject it, he can request a formal trial within seven days following the court’s order.
Earlier, on August 7, this K-pop star faced DUI charges for operating an electric scooter while intoxicated. On August 23, he made his first public appearance after the charges at the Yongsan Police Station during investigations.
During his appearance, he commented on his DUI case and expressed his apologies for any disappointment he may have caused his fans and the public. He stated:
“I’m sorry. I sincerely regret disappointing many people. I will cooperate fully with the investigation. Once again, I’m sorry.”
Essential Information Regarding BTS SUGA’s DUI Case
On August 7, details regarding BTS SUGA’s DUI involvement surfaced. Prior to that, on August 6, the idol was reported to have ridden an electric scooter while under the influence.
After socializing with friends at his studio, the idol opted for an electric scooter to return home, which was about 500 meters away. In an apology letter shared on Weverse on August 7, he explained that the electric scooter was the most accessible mode of transportation at the time.
SUGA emphasized that he was unaware that riding an electric scooter while intoxicated was illegal. Fortunately, no one was injured during his journey home; however, he did fall from the scooter while turning near his residence. Following this incident, patrol police nearby approached him and administered a breathalyzer test.
When the breathalyzer test yielded a positive result, he was fined, and his license was revoked. Subsequently, this led to further private investigations at the Yongsan Police Station. Both BTS’ SUGA and BigHit Music released statements expressing their regret over the incident.
“Due to this incident, I have greatly damaged the precious memories I made with the members and fans and put a lot of pressure on the name of BTS. I feel so sorry and painful that it’s hard to express because it’s causing damage to the members and the team.”
SUGA further added,
“I’m sorry that the members who have always trusted me have a hard time because of me. And I know the disappointment of the fans that supported and stood by me must have felt.”
As of now, the idol’s official response to the court’s summary judgment remains unknown.
