“BTS Suga Fans Respond with Funeral Wreaths to Antis Demanding His Removal”—Internet Reacts to Hypocritical Knet Criticism

On October 22, 2024, BTS’s Suga’s supporters responded strongly against anti-fans who had placed funeral wreaths in front of the HYBE headquarters, calling for the idol’s removal following his DUI incident. These wreaths, accompanied by harmful messages aimed at Suga, demanded his expulsion from the group, despite his prior apologies, payment of fines, and cooperation with law enforcement.

In an act of defiance, international fans gathered images of those responsible for the wreath protest and shared them online, mirroring the actions of the anti-fans. Many felt that the original protest had crossed a line, asserting that sending funeral wreaths to someone who is alive is an overly dramatized reaction to the situation.

Numerous fans expressed their discontent, highlighting the irony of the antis criticizing the exposure of their identities while using Suga’s image for protest purposes. Social media platforms erupted with calls for accountability directed at the K-netizens. A user on X, @HIES0MA, commented:

“It’s funny how they have NO issue with sending FUNERAL WREATHS to Suga, but they cry when their identities are revealed? K-netizens are truly hypocritical.”

“While it’s unacceptable for anyone to go through this, they initiated the attack with those funeral wreaths for someone very much alive and should brace themselves for backlash… They organized the entire event,”another fan stated.

“How is it okay for them to target an idol, but fans are not allowed to retaliate? It makes no sense,”wrote another user on X.

“We know they weren’t mere commoners; these jobless individuals stood guard by the wreaths for hours, returning the next day but covered up. They send out death wreaths and find it normal but get upset when faced with the same energy,”remarked another user.

“The K-netizens need to focus on the concerning suicide rates linked to bullying, harassment, and threats,”another contributor wrote.

In a show of unity and support for Suga, fans flooded social media platforms with encouraging messages, trending hashtags like #WeLoveYouYoongi to emphasize their desire for the continuation of BTS as seven members.

“The antis couldn’t even properly document the wreaths because support vehicles, banners, and ARMYs were obstructing their view; I can’t stop laughing,”a fan exclaimed on X.

“Those antis were bold enough to send wreaths outside HYBE, but now they’re upset and throwing fits because their photos are getting edited with wreath images. It’s hilarious! They’re just tasting their own medicine,”commented a user.

“As we’ve noted, the wreaths are present, but the support from ARMY is even more substantial, and that’s what counts. Only three support trucks were there when this video was filmed, and now we’ve increased to a total of five today. While today marks the anticipated conclusion of their protest, our support for Suga remains steadfast,”mentioned a user.

Support for BTS’s Suga Grows Amid Calls for His Dismissal

This situation stems from an incident on August 6, 2024, where Suga was involved in a minor scooter collision while under the influence. After a police-administered breathalyzer test, he was fined 15 million KRW by the Seoul Western District Court without the need for a formal trial, as no injuries occurred, rendering the case a minor offense.

Despite his adherence to legal protocols, anti-fans persisted in their calls for his ousting from BTS. As derogatory wreaths accumulated outside the HYBE building, ARMY, BTS’s dedicated fanbase, rallied behind Suga, challenging HYBE for not sufficiently safeguarding him from such negativity. This situation bears similarity to a prior incident involving ex-RIIZE member Seunghan, who suffered similar treatment, leading to his voluntary departure from the group.

Nevertheless, BTS’s fans have demonstrated unwavering support for Suga, advocating for accountability and forgiveness during this turbulent time. Despite the negative scrutiny, the rapper continues to enjoy significant backing from his global fan community.

Currently, Suga is fulfilling his duties as a social worker in the military, with his discharge planned for June 2025.
