BTS’ RM: Celebrated for His Literary Love
BTS’ Kim Namjoon, popularly known as RM, has long been recognized for his intellectual prowess, primarily through his contributions to BTS’ extensive songwriting catalog. Recently, he was honored as the top “wise idol likely to read a lot” by Forbes Korea.
With an exceptional IQ of 148, Namjoon has openly shared his love for reading, frequently recommending books to his fans. Among his suggestions are notable works such as Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka, Demian by Hermann Hesse, and Please Look After Mother by Kyung-sook Shin, among others.
Forbes Korea highlights that BTS’ leader was immersed in the hip-hop community from a young age. By middle school, he was already displaying his lyrical talent by sharing original rap compositions online. His early work showcased an innate gift for lyricism, engaging with fellow enthusiasts.
As the primary songwriter for BTS, RM’s lyrical style is celebrated for its depth, often delving into personal and philosophical themes. His introspective topics often tackle issues such as uncertainty about the future, handling criticism, exploring identity, and feelings of solitude.
Instead of presenting these concepts directly, Namjoon often utilizes metaphorical language, allowing for the delivery of complex messages in a thoughtful and nuanced manner.
In addition to his songwriting brilliance, Namjoon is also renowned for his eloquent speaking abilities. His impactful acceptance speeches have established him as a distinguished orator, notably exemplified when he delivered an inspiring address in English at the United Nations on September 24, 2018, which resonated deeply with global audiences.
“Maybe I made a mistake yesterday, but yesterday’s me is still me. I am who I am today, with all my faults. Tomorrow I might be a tiny bit wiser, and that’s me, too. These faults and mistakes contribute to the brightest stars in the constellation of my life. I have come to embrace myself for who I was, who I am, and who I aspire to become,”the K-pop idol reflected during his speech.
The upcoming documentary featuring BTS leader RM, titled Right People, Wrong Place, is set to premiere on October 7, 2024, in an open cinema setting at the Haeundae-gu Film Archive during the Busan Film Festival. Tickets for this high-demand event have already sold out, with fans eagerly anticipating the showing.
