BTS Kim Taehyung’s ‘Layover’ Solo Album Achieves Platinum Certification from Recording Industry Association of Japan

BTS member Kim Taehyung, popularly known as V, has achieved a remarkable milestone with his debut solo album, Layover, which has been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ). The RIAJ updated its Gold Disc certification list on October 10, indicating that albums surpassing a specific shipment threshold within a month receive this prestigious recognition.

As reported by Dispatch on October 10, Taehyung’s Layover reached Platinum status after shipping approximately 250,000 copies in Japan. This achievement is particularly significant as it occurred exactly one year, one month, and two days following the album’s initial release on September 8, 2023.

Layover showcases Taehyung’s unique artistic style, featuring a blend of R&B and soul music, including tracks like Rainy Days, Blue, Love Me Again, Slow Dancing, For Us, and Slow Dancing (Piano Ver.). Fans worldwide have embraced the album, offering high praise.

In a groundbreaking achievement, Layover became the first album by a K-pop solo artist to have every track exceed 100 million streams on Spotify by May 2024. Notably, the pre-release single Love Me Again surpassed 800 million streams, marking it as Taehyung’s first song to reach this remarkable level.

Vinyl Release of Layover Dominates Oricon Daily Albums Chart

Recently, BIGHIT MUSIC announced the vinyl release of Layover to celebrate the album’s first anniversary. As reported by The Viewers on October 7, the LP edition debuted at the top of the Oricon Daily Album rankings on September 30, 2024, selling more than 221,491 copies on its first day in Japan.

Additionally, the album’s title track Slow Dancing topped the Daily Digital Single Rankings on Oricon, generating significant excitement among Taehyung’s Japanese fanbase. Other B-side tracks such as Blue, For Us, and Slow Dancing (Piano Ver.) secured the 4th, 5th, and 6th positions on the chart, respectively.

Layover also claimed the number one spot on Amazon Japan for imported album sales. Following the commencement of pre-orders on August 21, 2024, the vinyl version quickly sold out on BTS’s Official Japan Store and Universal Music Japan sites, and it repeatedly sold out upon restocking.

The LP version is also available for pre-order in the United States, set to be released on October 18, 2024. Following The Viewers’ report on October 8, the Layover Vinyl sold out at the BTS USA Official Store, the Weverse Official US Store, and Target during the pre-order phase.
