According to a report by Forbes Korea on October 28, BTS member Jin has been recognized as the ‘Icon of Patriotism’ following a fan vote. The singer of “Super Tuna”garnered a total of 6,203 votes, which is 54.75% of all the votes cast. Additionally, the report emphasized Jin’s commendable conduct during his military service. This survey was conducted in honor of Korea’s Armed Forces Day.
The voting process spanned approximately 10 days, from September 30 to October 9, via the Idol Champ app, under the campaign titled, “Vote for the idol you believe embodies patriotism.”
BTS’ Jin emerges victorious among 14 nominated idols in Forbes Korea’s latest findings
To celebrate Armed Forces Day, observed on October 1, Forbes Korea sought fans’ opinions on which idols and celebrities epitomize patriotism. The vote highlighted numerous idol members who have completed their military duties, with a notable focus on male idols.
The Idol Champ app facilitated the voting process from September 30 to October 9, themed around the concept of “icon of patriotism.”
The ballot included 14 candidates, featuring Jin from BTS alongside notable names such as Minji from NewJeans, Young K from DAY6, Ah Hyun from BABYMONSTER, Taesan from BOYNEXTDOOR, CNU from B1A4, Hoshi from SEVENTEEN, Seo-hyun from Girls’ Generation, Hee-jin from ARTMS, Seonghwa from ATEEZ, Kang Seung-yoon from WINNER, Noah from Flave, Ha Sung-woon, and Ok Taec-yeon from 2PM.
Jin quickly established a lead in the voting, receiving a significant number of votes early on. He enlisted in the military on December 13, 2022, wherein he distinguished himself as a special forces operative and mentor, and he is expected to complete his service on June 12, 2024.
Throughout the voting period, Jin maintained his lead, ultimately accumulating 6,203 votes, which represented 54.75% of all submissions. As the first BTS member to enlist in December 2022, he served initially as a boot camp assistant before advancing to the role of an instructor.
Renowned for his benevolence towards comrades during his military tenure, Jin has received accolades including two division commander awards and multiple battalion commander recognition, alongside the Army Soldier Award. Upon his discharge, he expressed solidarity with his fellow soldiers by showcasing signed papers from them. After his military service, he participated as a torchbearer for the 2024 Paris Olympics and is set to make his much-anticipated return with his solo album titled “HAPPY.”
Following Jin’s lead, Ha Sung-woon ranked second with 15.05% of the votes, while Flave’s Noah and Hoshi from SEVENTEEN occupied third and fourth place, tallying 10.84% and 6.04%, respectively. CNU from B1A4 and Seonghwa from ATEEZ secured fifth and sixth positions.
The remaining slots in the top ten were filled by Ah Hyun from BABYMONSTER, Ok Taec-yeon from 2PM, Young K from DAY6, and Taesan from BOYNEXTDOOR.
Beyond Jin, Lovely Runner’s Kim Hye-yoon also performed strongly in the Korean celebrity category, receiving 33.6% of the votes, equating to 4,693 votes.
Since his discharge, BTS’ Jin has embarked on various new projects, serving as an ambassador for prestigious brands like Gucci and FRED, and has launched his own variety show titled “RUN JIN”on YouTube.
