BTS’ Jin Explains His Popularity in the Military: “I Never Scolded Them”

On Tuesday, October 29, 2024, YouTube premiered a new episode of The K-Star Next Door spotlighting BTS member Jin. In this episode, Kim Seokjin opened up about the factors contributing to his popularity during his time in military service.

When host Jonathan inquired about Jin’s fame in the military, he humbly attributed it to his approach towards his fellow soldiers, clarifying that he never reprimanded his juniors throughout his compulsory service.

“I never scolded my junior soldiers. Even though I have over a decade in this industry, there’s still a lot I don’t know. I can’t comprehend why people choose to reprimand others for their lack of knowledge. If someone is unsure, the best course is to provide guidance. Everyone makes mistakes; I forget things too. This has always been my perspective,” Jin shared.

Jin also added that he often treated his subordinates to meals, showcasing his generous nature.

“I made it a point to be kind to them and even spent money on their meals,” he noted.

Throughout the episode, host Jonathan covered several topics, including Jin’s journey with BTS, his upcoming album, updates about his bandmates, j-hope’s recent military discharge, and various music videos. Notably, Jin also performed live his recent song, “I’ll Be There.”

During his chat with Jonathan, Jin discussed attending j-hope’s military discharge ceremony. For context, j-hope completed his mandatory service and returned home on October 17, 2024.

Jin recounted that he adjusted his schedule to support Hobi on this special occasion, saying:

“Hobi assured me it was okay if I didn’t come, but I realized it would be challenging for the other members to get time off. I considered that no one else might be present at Hobi’s discharge, so I rearranged my commitments to be there.”

The episode explored various topics, including the rise of BTS. When Jonathan asked Jin about the moment he recognized their explosive popularity, he replied:

“I never grasped that until now. This success is the result of our hard work. I’ve never felt successful at any stage.”

Moreover, the conversation shifted to Jin’s friendships, revealing his close relationship with Baek Jong-won, a renowned South Korean chef and media personality known for his role as a judge on Netflix’s Culinary Class Wars.

When Jonathan probed further into their friendship, Jin expressed that he considers Baek Jong-won a true friend. While Jin prefers texting over voice calls, he highlighted that Baek always finds the time to call him.

“I can confidently say that Baek Jong-won is my best friend. I’ve never encountered anyone like him before. He calls me daily. I enjoy texting, so I rarely initiate calls. However, whenever I text him, he responds with a call. We frequently play the same game together, making him one of the friends I meet most,” Jin elaborated.

In other news, Jin recently appeared on another talk program, Salon Drip 2. A preview of this episode was shared on October 22, 2024, with the entire episode set to release on TEO Universe’s official YouTube channel (@TEO_universe) on November 5, 2024.
