In an exciting revelation, it has been disclosed that Lee Changsub, a member of the popular K-pop group BTOB, is the nephew of Venerable Seonjae. She is a distinguished master chef specializing in temple cuisine, currently competing in the Netflix cooking competition “Culinary Class Wars 2.”
About Venerable Seonjae
At 69 years old, Venerable Seonjae, born in 1956, is one of the 20 esteemed “White Spoon”chefs featured in the second season of this culinary showdown, which debuted on December 16. Known as Korea’s first officially recognized master of temple cuisine, she emphasizes the use of seasonal vegetables, fermentation processes, and achieving balance in flavors, while consciously avoiding meat, garlic, and other strong stimulants. Her culinary approach reflects deep Buddhist principles, as noted by First Classe.
Family Connections Revealed
The intriguing family link was revealed during Venerable Seonjae’s appearance on the MBC variety show “All Broadcasting in the World.”During the program, she expressed her admiration for her nephew, stating, “My nephew is also a singer. But even though my nephew is a singer, I don’t know very many singers. My nephew is a fellow named Lee Changsub in BTOB, ”according to an Allkpop article.
Lee Changsub: A Brief Profile
Lee Changsub, 34, has made a significant impact in the music industry as the lead vocalist of BTOB, which debuted in March 2012. The talented singer hails from Suwon and pursued a degree in Practical Music at Howon University, managing to gain admission despite a highly competitive acceptance rate of 600:1 alongside fellow BTOB member Im Hyunsik. Since launching his solo career in 2017, he released his first full-length album, “1991, ”in October 2024. In addition to his musical pursuits, he opened the Chang-Ggo Training Centre in Suwon in April 2023, where he mentors approximately 130 aspiring idol trainees. Following the expiration of his contract with Cube Entertainment in November 2023, Changsub joined Fantagio while continuing his activities with BTOB.

Venerable Seonjae’s expertise in culinary arts extends well beyond mere familial associations. With decades of dedication, she has worked tirelessly to expand the appreciation of temple food outside monastery confines. In a significant achievement, she showcased her unique cuisine at the APEC CEO Summit’s special banquet in Gyeongju in October 2025 and has lectured globally, including prestigious institutions such as Le Cordon Bleu.
