“Bronny is his own man”: LeBron James seemingly agrees to son’s exit from USC

According to reports, Bronny James, the son of LeBron James, will be transferring after completing one season with the USC Trojans. It is uncertain where he will continue his college basketball career, following a promising freshman year with the Pac-12 powerhouse. Under former coach Andy Enfield, James Jr. appeared in 25 games and maintained an average of 4.8 points and 2.8 rebounds in approximately 19.4 minutes per game.

The topic of James Jr.’s departure from USC was bound to come up for the LA Lakers superstar. Following the team’s 128-111 win against the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday, he was questioned about the situation.

According to Lakers Nation, the four-time MVP issued a response.

“I don’t know where that came from but at the end of the day, Bronny is his own man and he has some tough decisions to make and when he’s ready to make those decisions, he’ll let us all know. But as his family, we’ll support whatever he does.”

Despite the expectations of many basketball fans and scouts, it was believed that LeBron James’ oldest son would only play one year for the Trojans before entering the 2024 NBA draft. While this outcome is still a possibility, it appears that Bronny James will now spend at least one more year playing collegiate basketball. Regardless of his decision, “King James”will fully support James Jr. in his journey.

It is possible that the reason for the younger James’ decision to enter the transfer portal is connected to Andy Enfield’s dismissal. Enfield will now be leading Southern Methodist University in the ACC for the upcoming season.

Bronny James’ Early Struggles Before Joining USC

LeBron James frequently expressed excitement for his oldest son Bronny James’ upcoming college basketball career with the USC Trojans. The four-time NBA champion frequently shared photos on Instagram of James Jr. training alongside his younger brother Bryce James.

Following a collapse during a scrimmage with his new Trojan teammates, everything abruptly stopped for the college player. The young James experienced a sudden cardiac arrest and was immediately transported to the hospital.

Despite requesting privacy for his family to handle the situation, LeBron James made a statement emphasizing that Bronny James’ health was his top priority. Several weeks later, James provided reassurance through a press release that his son was in good health. The family remained confident that he would make a swift return to the basketball court.

The Trojans’ first eight games were without their former Sierra Canyon star, as he needed time to improve his conditioning. When he was deemed prepared, he gradually joined the lineup as a bench player. He had to prove himself in order to earn playing time, as Isaiah Collier and Boogie Ellis were ahead of him.

Maybe a new beginning, now that LeBron James’ son is in good health, would be more beneficial. Prior to committing to play for USC, Bronny James had shown interest in attending Oregon or Ohio State. It is possible that he may end up playing for one of those universities.
