Brock Wright Lions contract: How much will TE earn in Detroit?

The demand for Detroit Lions tight end Brock Wright is high. After being offered a three-year, $12 million contract with $6 million guaranteed by the San Francisco 49ers, the Notre Dame alum, the Lions acted swiftly to match the deal, securing their backup tight end for the foreseeable future.

This decision solidifies Wright’s spot on the Lions roster, where he will serve as a backup to All-Pro tight end Sam LaPorta. This formidable duo at tight end cements the Lions’ position as a top contender for the postseason and reflects Dan Campbell’s commitment to maintaining a high level of competitiveness.

Brock Wright’s Total Earnings and Career Income

After the 2021 Draft, Brock Wright began his NFL journey as an undrafted free agent. Despite being unsigned for a short period of time, the Notre Dame graduate was eventually given an opportunity by the Lions, who recognized his talent as a pass catcher. Wright has been a part of the Lions’ roster since the 2021 NFL season.

According to Spotrac, Wright made $2,282,726 during his three-year tenure with the Lions. He is now poised to significantly increase that amount, as he is expected to sign a lucrative three-year extension with more guaranteed money than he has ever earned in his professional career.

Brock Wright’s Performance in 2023

Despite entering the 2023 NFL season as the backup tight end behind rookie Sam LaPorta, Brock Wright fulfilled his role and contributed to the team’s success. As the season progressed, it became evident that LaPorta was a standout player and Wright’s offensive playing time would be limited in the 2024 NFL season.

During the last season, the Notre Dame graduate handled the situation calmly and primarily played the role of a blocker. However, towards the end of the year, he stepped up when LaPorta faced injuries. Wright’s performance included 13 receptions, 91 receiving yards, and one receiving touchdown. He aspires to have a more prominent role in the upcoming seasons, but we question if he will have to work harder, especially after signing a new contract prior to the 2024 season.
