Brian Jordan Alvarez, known for his role as both star and creator of *The English Teacher*, is facing serious allegations of sexual assault from a former co-star. Recent findings reported by Vulture reveal a troubling history of alleged aggressive behavior by Alvarez.
Trigger Warning: The following content addresses topics of sexual assault and harassment.
Jon Ebeling, who collaborated with Alvarez prior to the latter’s rise to fame with *The English Teacher*, was part of the same friend group that includes Stephanie Koenig, who portrays Gwen in the series. Ebeling claims that he experienced stalking and coercion by Alvarez, which turned their professional relationship into a troubling personal encounter.
The trio had previously worked together on the YouTube series *The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo*. Ebeling asserts that during this time, Alvarez engaged in non-consensual sexual activity with him on camera, despite Ebeling being in a relationship with Koenig. Furthermore, Ebeling alleges that Alvarez persistently pursued him, even after being informed of Ebeling’s sexuality.
Ebeling recounted his distressing experience: “I am assuming nobody on set knows what’s going on under the comforter, and I’m just frozen. I didn’t know what to do. I’m on set with my director, who is assaulting me. It was a horrible feeling.” Ebeling reflected on the moment, saying, “I was like, ‘Wait a second. I didn’t consent to this. We didn’t talk about this.’ I was raped.”
Legal Disputes Between Jon Ebeling and Brian Jordan Alvarez
The ongoing legal battle between Ebeling and Alvarez continues to unfold as both parties navigate through their representatives. Ebeling admits that at one point, he allowed Alvarez to engage in sexual acts after feeling pressured into compliance. However, Alvarez’s legal team contends that Ebeling “enthusiastically gave consent.”
Furthermore, Ebeling claims that his initial consent to engage with Alvarez was motivated by his desire to pursue a relationship with Koenig. His decision to cut off ties came after he recognized the situation with Alvarez as an instance of sexual assault. In response, he filed a report with the LAPD in September 2023 and contacted SAG-AFTRA regarding the incident.
Alvarez’s legal representatives have firmly opposed these claims, asserting that Ebeling’s consent was implicit through their prior sexual relationship. “Brian briefly made contact with Mr. Ebeling’s penis under the covers, believing (correctly and justifiably in light of Brian’s then-current sexual relationship with Mr. Ebeling) that Mr. Ebeling was fine with it,” Alvarez’s representative stated in the Vulture article. They have further claimed that Ebeling verbally consented to the interactions.
Alvarez Asserts His Innocence
In an interview with USA Today, Alvarez’s representatives expressed dissatisfaction with the coverage by New York Magazine and Vulture, claiming that Ebeling has sought to spread his narrative and alleges that multiple media outlets initially chose not to publish these claims.
“For many months, Mr. Ebeling has peddled his falsehoods to anyone who would listen but, when confronted with proof of his duplicity and definitive evidence provided by third parties showing why Mr. Ebeling should not be trusted, numerous media outlets declined to print his outrageous claims. Sadly, New York Magazine displayed no such judgment in its reckless headlong pursuit of publishing a salacious, attention-grabbing article, no matter the truth,” Alvarez’s team asserted.
As of now, FX has not issued any statements regarding the allegations, nor have they confirmed whether *The English Teacher* will return for a second season.
